Position summary:
JMT is seeking a motivated and innovative Water Resources Project Engineer with 5-10 years of design experience to join their Washington D.C. team. The team supports a variety of infrastructure projects throughout the region and leads several projects focused on implementing Green Stormwater Infrastructure in a highly urbanized area.
The Project Engineer will perform various design, permitting, construction support, and inspection tasks. Candidates are expected to be well-versed across the water resources discipline, demonstrating proficiency in drainage design, grading, erosion and sediment control design, stormwater management design, hydrology, hydraulic modeling, permitting, utility coordination and clash detection, specification development, and quantity takeoffs. The successful candidate will have the opportunity for upward mobility in leading and managing tasks. U.S. Residency Required.
Compensation is $40-60/hour, commensurate with experience, education, and certifications.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:Work on multiple projects in a dynamic, fast-paced team-oriented environment.Familiarity with Federal, State, and local jurisdiction design standards and regulatory requirements.Understand the project lifecycle and design phases, providing high-quality deliverables in accordance with client specifications and requirements.Complete design tasks including but not limited to:Identify watersheds, drainage patterns, and soil conditions.Delineate drainage areas for analysis.Complete land cover and time of concentration calculations.Design and analyze stormwater management practices.Design drainage networks including the pipe, slope, and outfall locations.Perform Hydrologic and Hydraulic analysis.Develop Post Construction Stormwater Management plans and details.Develop Erosion and Sediment Control plans.Complete permit applications for state and local agencies.Utilize general engineering principles and practices.Prepare technical reports of design approach, methodology, and summary of results.Develop construction cost estimates, quantity takeoffs, prepare specifications, and package construction documents for bid.Coordinate with utility companies as needed to accommodate designs.Coordinate with internal team members to ensure project completion by the defined deadline with established quality.Familiarity with green infrastructure design in urban environments.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Coordinate with contractors, outside consultants, government agencies, and JMT staff from multiple locations and technical disciplines.
Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities:Perform other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills:Proficient in Bentley OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCAD Civil 3D.Proficient in Microsoft Office.Strong written and communication skills.Proficiency in hydrologic and hydraulic analysis and design software preferred.
Required Experience:Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related field from an ABET accredited engineering program.4-10 years of experience in Water Resources or related engineering discipline.Hydrologic Modeling experience using TR55 / TR20 and Rational Method.Storm drain design, stormwater management design, and erosion and sediment control design experience.Technical writing experience for report development.Contract document preparation experience including plans, specifications, and cost estimates.
Preferred Experience:Professional Engineer License.Water resource engineering design in District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia.Proficiency in discipline-specific design software, including TR-55, TR-20, HY-8, FlowMaster, and/or HEC-RAS preferred.2-D modeling experience using SWMM or comparable model.
Working Conditions:Work can be performed on a hybrid schedule following a training period - a combination of office and remote work. In-office work will be in the Washington, DC location. Work is generally sedentary but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate, and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.Field work is required on occasion where work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Some lifting (up to 25 lbs) may be required as needed.
