Rail Engineering SpecialistSTV's Chicago Rail team is seeking a Rail Civil Engineering Specialist to join our highly skilled Transportation team. The ideal candidate should have some previous experience in transportation engineering and a strong interest in rail design and construction projects. The candidate will have the opportunity to work directly with class 1 freight railroads and passenger systems such as Amtrak, CTA, and Metra both in the Chicago area and across the country. As a Rail Civil Engineering Specialist, you will focus on the design and production of planning and construction bid documents. You will have the opportunity to work under the direction of experienced engineers and learn rail design fundamentals.

Responsibilities:

Use Microstation and AutoCAD to design rail alignments, drainage systems, grading, and other guideway elements.

Participate in a variety of planning, design, and construction projects.

Develop construction documents, including technical drawings and specifications.

Participate in meetings with clients and stakeholders and develop content for these meetings.

Assist in developing technical design reports, calculations, and memos.

Periodically perform field inspections.

Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.

An engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification preferred but not required.

A basic understanding of civil transportation engineering fundamentals.

Familiarity with civil design drafting software.

A strong desire to work with and help clients, public stakeholders, and fellow team members.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

A desire to work on large multidisciplinary rail projects with fast-paced schedules, which require creative thinking and innovative problem-solving skills.

Experience using Microstation InRoads, OpenRail, and/or AutoCAD Civil3D.

Construction site experience.

Previous experience with freight and passenger railroad design and engineering.

Compensation Range:

$58,475.00 - $77,966.00
