Responds quickly and effectively to emergency situations, codes, and/or alarms. Observes and enforces policies and procedures for the security and safety of patients, visitors, staff, physicians, and property. Maintains security and safety for assigned area of responsibility and campus when necessary. Safely regulates pedestrian and vehicular traffic when requested or during emergent situations. Provides a visible deterrence to crime, prohibited or suspicious activities in public and non-public areas such as the main building, outlying buildings, grounds, parking areas, stairways, tunnels, mechanical areas, and patient care areas. Maintains strong working knowledge of the locations of various departments, buildings, and access routes and assists in locating areas upon request. Performs patrols and escorts on hospital property. Responds to calls for service and documents in the security activity and incident reporting system. Ensures security activity and incident reports generated during shift accurately reflect the facts of the occurrences of assigned shift and are completed in a timely manner. Documents violators of hospital policies or procedures and reports to security leadership. Provides basic interview and investigative knowledge and skills for written incident reports. Utilizes knowledge of security and safety principles, practices, and policies. Provides a commitment to staff and patient safety and practices which support reasonable and appropriate use of force when needed. Provides input to safety plans; presents ideas, uses persuasion and negotiation to build consensus and cooperation; ensures safe practices and updates leadership as appropriate. In addition, technical duties as required in support of hospital operations.
