Job Overview: A law firm in Oakland, CA, is seeking a qualified Patent Attorney with expertise in patent preparation and prosecution. The ideal candidate will possess a background in computer science or electrical engineering, or hold a graduate degree in physics, along with a strong understanding of wireless digital communication, optical device/semiconductor processing, and/or chip design such as microprocessor architecture.Duties:Prepare and prosecute patent applicationsConduct patentability and freedom-to-operate analysesDraft patent opinions and provide strategic intellectual property counselingCollaborate with inventors, engineers, and clients to assess patentable inventions and develop patent strategiesConduct patent searches and prior art analysesRequirements:Eligible to be admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)Background in computer science or electrical engineering, or a graduate degree in physicsAt least 2 years of patent attorney or agent experienceStrong writing and communication skillsCommitment to patent prosecutionEducation:Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, or related fieldJuris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law schoolAdmission to a state bar and eligibility for admission to practice before the USPTOCertifications:Admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)Skills:Proficiency in patent preparation and prosecution proceduresAbility to analyze technical documents and understand complex technologiesExcellent research and analytical skillsStrong attention to detail and organizational abilitiesEffective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
