Entry Level Patent Attorney

Job Overview: A law firm in Oakland, CA, is seeking an Entry Level Patent Attorney with a background in chemistry or other relevant physical sciences field. Duties: Assist in patent prosecution proceedings. Conduct patentability and freedom-to-operate searches and analyses. Draft patent applications and responses to office actions. Communicate with clients, patent examiners, and colleagues regarding patent matters. Conduct legal research and analysis related to intellectual property issues. Collaborate with senior attorneys on various patent-related projects. Requirements: Eligibility to be admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in chemistry, or other relevant physical sciences field; or pertinent industry experience. 0-3 years of patent attorney or agent experience. Strong writing and communication skills. Interest in patent prosecution. Admission to practice before the USPTO is a plus. Ph.D. in chemistry or other relevant physical sciences field is desired. Prior patent prosecution experience in a law firm setting is a plus. Education: B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in chemistry, or other relevant physical sciences field; or pertinent industry experience. Certifications: Eligibility for admission to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Skills: Excellent writing and communication skills. Legal research and analysis abilities. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively. Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and legal research databases.
