Silver Mountain is a certified 8(a) small disadvantaged business headquartered in Alaska with offices nationwide.POSITION PURPOSE:The Project Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) is responsible for project and site safety by implementing and enforcing applicable safety standards and project Accident Prevention / Site Safety and Health Plans. The SSHO will perform the following: exercise authority to stop work for conditions adverse to quality or safety; ensure safe conditions exist at the job site; serve as a competent safety person; ensure equipment and other project resources are in working order and comply with the APP and associated activity hazard analyses (AHA).ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log.Conduct mishap investigations and complete required accident reports.Use and maintain OSHA's Form 300 to log work-related injuries and illnesses.Maintain applicable safety reference material on the job site.Attend pre-construction conferences and periodic in-progress meetings.Review the APP and AHAs for compliance and enforce them.Establish a Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Deficiency Tracking System.Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements.Maintain a list of hazardous chemicals on site and their material Safety Data Sheets (SDS).Conduct safety meetings and document meeting minutes.Investigate near misses, accidents/incidents, and report on causes and solutions.Enforce all regulatory, base and company specific safety rules.Required to be onsite during construction activities.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education and Experience:Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.Associate or bachelor's degree in occupational safety and health, Construction Management, or a related field preferred.5 years of construction industry safety experience on NAVFAC, DOD, or Army Corps of Engineering projects.Knowledge of the USACE EM 385-1-1 Health and Safety Requirements.Certifications:30-hour OSHA construction safety class or equivalent within the last 5 years.SSHO shall have Construction Health & Safety Technician (CHST) certification.40 Hr. Contract Safety Awareness certification within 60 days of contract award.An average of at least 24 hours of formal safety training each year for the past 5 years.Skills and Abilities:Working knowledge of Federal and HIOSH safety and health regulations.First Aid, CPR, AED training.Ability to work effectively with a wide variety of construction personnel.Good organizational, follow-up and detail-oriented skills.Must possess a working knowledge of Adobe Pro, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.Must be able to work independently with minimal direction.Ability to make decisions, solve problems and exercise good judgment.Special Requirements:Valid Driver's License.Must be able to pass a background check.5 years of project related experience on similar projects.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:ASP or CSP certification preferred.HAZWOPER certification preferred.PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods.Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.WORKING ENVIRONMENT:The position will require work to be performed indoors and outdoors, exposed to various weather conditions and other hazards.North Wind offers a competitive pay and benefits package.
