This position requires meticulous attention to detail, strong communication skills, and a commitment to safeguarding sensitive information.Major Duties:Conduct Investigations: Perform federal background investigations, gathering relevant information and preparing thorough reports of investigation in accordance with Federal Investigative Standards, laws, and agency regulations.Subject Interviews: Conduct in-person and/or phone interviews with individuals to obtain detailed information about their background and character, following agency guidelines.Information Gathering: Obtain and verify information from a variety of personal and record sources to produce reports that encompass all pertinent facts about an individual’s background and character.Travel Requirements: Travel may be required to conduct interviews or obtain records, with an expected travel radius of 30-50 miles from the assigned location.Timely Completion: Ensure that all background investigations and reports are completed within specified timelines, meeting agency deadlines and standards.Safeguarding Information: Properly safeguard sensitive information, including Privacy Act Protected Information, Personally Identifiable Information (PII), and Classified National Security Information.Professional Qualifications/Skills:Security Clearance: Must possess and maintain a current Top Secret personnel security clearance.Experience: Minimum of five (5), preferably seven (7), years of experience in conducting investigations.Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and the ability to produce clear, concise, and accurate reports.Work Schedule: Flexibility may be required to meet the demands of the investigation process.Location: Washington, D.C., with travel in and around the assigned location as needed.The Background Investigator is a vital role in maintaining the security and integrity of the personnel security program.
