This position has primary accountability for the overall operation of Laurel Lake Retirement Community. The position reports directly to the Laurel Lake Board of Directors and is expected to lead the organization in accordance with the goals established by the Laurel Lake Board of Directors.PRINCIPAL JOB ACCOUNTABILITIES

The Essential Functions and Responsibilities identified below will be performed to reflect the values of LLRC: Compassion, Respect, Excellence, and Service.Ensure that the organization conducts its mission, pursues its vision, develops, and implements long range strategic plans.Review with appropriate constituencies the organization’s vision and mission statements.Ensure the long term financial success and viability of the organization.Oversee the development and implementation of an organizational strategic plan designed to maintain the long term financial health of Laurel Lake.Oversee the development and implementation of an annual operating and capital budget for Laurel Lake and all its departments.Oversee the development of new products and services.Provide the Laurel Lake Board of Directors regular updates on the performance of the organization to the strategic plan and the annual budget.Provide direction and leadership to the management team (department directors) to ensure that their areas operate effectively.Hire, train, and mentor members of the leadership team.Ensure that the leadership team operates in a well-organized, unified, and supportive manner.Meet with all direct reports individually on a regular basis.Meet with all Directors as a group regularly.Be readily available to all department directors to respond to urgent situations.Evaluate performance annually of management team.Develop management competency and performance standards for senior staff and department heads.Ensure that Laurel Lake maintains budgeted occupancy in the independent units, in Greenwood, and in Crown Center.Review and approve the annual marketing plan.Meet with the independent marketing staff periodically to review that status of sales, wait lists, occupancy, and planned marketing activities for all areas.Participate in marketing activities and events such as speaking to prospective residents.Make final admission decisions on the acceptability of all prospective Life Care residents.Ensure the development of a credible annual budget and compliance with the budget by maintaining an efficient and effective utilization of personnel, equipment, and supplies while optimizing revenue.Maintain a positive, personal, open, honest, and caring relationship with residents through active participation and communication with residents and resident groups.Develop and maintain policies and procedures to encourage input from residents to participate appropriately in the decision making process.Meet with all residents at a regularly scheduled meeting monthly to provide them with information regarding Laurel Lake, to answer their questions, respond to their requests, and receive their suggestions.Have dinner with all new residents.Meet on a regular basis with the Resident Council, and when appropriate, other resident committees.Be visible to the residents.Respond in a timely fashion to all individual resident communications directed to the CEO.Maintain a positive, personal, open, honest, and caring relationship with staff members through active participation and communication with them.Meet with administrative staff as a group on a quarterly basis for fellowship, information sharing and short-term planning.Meet with all staff members at a regularly scheduled meeting on a quarterly basis for fellowship, information sharing and the presentation of tenure and other awards.Periodically meet with the staff within individual departments.Participate in the orientation of all new staff members.Be visible to the staff by walking around.Plan for and ensure the successful completion of all major repairs, improvements, and capital additions to the facility.Maintain a facility-wide list of routine and preventive maintenance and potential capital projects generated because of resident, staff and board suggestions and requests.Ensure funding for ongoing capital and maintenance items through annual budgeting process.Initiate, monitor and ensure the successful completion of all capital projects.Provide the overall direction for the operation of Laurel Lake Foundation and for the development of a successful fundraising program.Meet with the Director of Marketing regularly for the development planning and review process.Meet with the foundation board of trustees on a regular basis to develop overall foundation policy and fundraising strategy.Provide leadership for all major capital campaigns.Participate directly in fundraising activities with previous and/or potential donors.Develop and maintain a knowledgeable and effective board of trustees.Meet with the entire board and its committees on a regular basis.Maintain the interest of the board members by keeping them actively involved and by fully utilizing their expertise.Ensure that the board members are provided with all the information they need to effectively carry out their responsibilities.Ensure board members are educated about issues and changes affecting LLRC’s on a regular basis.Responsible for the identification and recruitment of nominees for board service.Participate in, and contribute to, the mission and activities of the Laurel Lake Retirement Community Board of Directors.Participate in LLRC board, board committee and leadership activities.Contribute specific retirement community/nursing facility expertise to LLRC when requested.Participate in regional, state, and national professional retirement community industry organizations and alliances, and be involved in and supportive of activities that will benefit Laurel Lake, its residents, staff, and other constituents.Attend appropriate regional, state, and national conferences and seminars on a regular basis to maintain state of the art retirement community knowledge and expertise.Develop and maintain external relations through churches, civic groups, community leaders, professional associates, educational institutions, and local, county and state governmental regulatory/inspection agencies that foster mutually beneficial outcomes.Sign and execute all agreements, contracts, deeds and other instruments for Laurel Lake which do not require authorization by the Board of Directors or which have been authorized by the Board of Directors, except where such action has been expressly delegated to some other officer by the Board of Directors.Establish and maintain written policies and systems regarding responsibilities and activities of Laurel Lake in compliance with external regulatory bodies and standards of care for CCRC, and interpret rules/regulatory statements for staff as needed.Establish written personnel policies and individual job descriptions.Assume responsibility with department management to implement effective policies to assure adequate staffing to meet facility needs.QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION:Bachelor’s degree with a preference for a graduate degree in business administration, health care, education, or social sciences. Possessing or eligible to obtain a State of Ohio Nursing Home Administrator’s License is preferred.EXPERIENCE:Five years successfully managing the financial and cultural health of one or more organizational units of a full service senior living campus, including multi-level health care as well as independent living units. Experience with all aspects of the continuum of human resources management including, but not limited to, regulatory compliance, recruiting, hiring, training, mentoring, and terminating staff and volunteers. Experience with both long term strategic and ongoing operational planning for all aspects of the organization. Leadership experience with planning preferred. Experience delivering effective and positive communication and relationship-building skills across diverse constituencies, including, but not limited to, residents and their families, staff and volunteers, external local community members, local and state government representatives, professional peers, and colleagues. Working with a Board of Directors, preferably in a non-profit senior living organization.KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:• Specific knowledge, training or skills required to perform the duties of this position.
