Job DetailsJob LocationOntario Mill - Ontario, CAPosition TypeInternshipSalary Range$23.00 - $23.00 HourlyDescriptionJob Title: Production Intern - Paper MillLocation: Ontario, CADepartment: ProductionFLSA Status: Non-ExemptReports To: Paper Machine SuperintendentPrepared By: Manager, Human ResourcesSummary: The Process Engineer Intern assists with optimizing manufacturing systems and processes.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Provide Production Team support as directed.Learn and apply knowledge within the containerboard field.Develop operator interfaces to promote efficient operation, effective standard operation procedures, and improved process monitoring of key operating parameters.Keep abreast of liner and medium paper making industry trends and implement improvements as appropriate.Work with the L&W and paper testing equipment vendors service technicians and assist in managing the service contracts for the paper testing labWork with production manager in the execution mill goals.Coordinate work with other groups within the company.Assist employees in gathering and analyzing data used in continuous improvement efforts.Assist in maintenance projects that involve instrumentation and process control.Assist operations in managing shutdown jobs.Works in a manner consistent with safety for all parties and promotes safe working practicesOther functions as assigned.Supervisory Responsibilities: None. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Education and/or Experience: Chemical Engineering student.Communication Skills: Intermediate skills in English; ability to read, write routine reports and correspondence and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.Mathematical Skills: Basic mathematical skills; ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers.Reasoning Ability: Intermediate skill level with the ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.Computer Skills: The company utilizes Microsoft products including; Outlook, Word, Excel and Power Point. Basic knowledge with these products is preferred. General computers Skills an asset. It assumes a rate based on location and experience.QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS:Currently enrolled in chemical engineering degree programStrong technical background desiredStrong written and verbal skillsDevelopmental: Knowledge of processes, wet end chemistry, paper testing procedures, and Root Failure Cause analysis (RFCA) related to quality or process failuresParticipate with all departments in continuous improvement of the mill.To perform this job successfully, an individual should also be able to navigate through various Manufacturing software platforms.Ability to be part of a multi-functional/multi-skill maintenance organization
