Position Summary

The Office of the Chief of Engagement, Dissemination, and Implementation (EDI) serves as the central hub for the EDI division, coordinating operations and programmatic activities. Activities include budget development, strategic planning, project coordination, reporting and analysis, recruitment, and communication facilitation within and outside of the division.

Working with the Chief Officer, EDI; division leadership, and additional staff as appropriate, the Associate Director in the Office of the Chief Officer, EDI is responsible for managing the operations of this complex and diverse division, providing day-to-day oversight of initiatives within the Office of the Chief, and driving cross-functional and cross-team collaboration to support organizational goals.

The areas of responsibility for this role are broad. The Associate Director (AD) will need to develop a deep understanding of PCORI’s work and goals, as well as organizational processes and initiatives. They will need to draw on management skills to support integration of focused and specialized activities, as well as collaborate with division leadership to support program goals within the division.

The Associate Director (AD) will work closely with the Chief to ensure consistency in programmatic and operational effectiveness, efficiency, and alignment with division, department, and organization goals. The AD will develop collaborative relationships with colleagues across the organization and will often be called upon to serve as a technical and subject-matter advisor on EDI operations, policies, and processes. Particular areas of focus may include primary responsibility for supporting operational, administrative, and strategic planning, facilitating conversations and issue explorations in support of or on behalf of the Chief, directing or tracking attention and resources to priority matters, and providing critical advice and support to the Chief and division leadership. This position also has responsibility for ensuring adherence to PCORI’s policies and procedures.

Duties and Responsibilities

Work closely with the Chief and unit leadership to develop and report on annual priorities, articulate strategic goals, and implement operating work plans for the division.

Ensure organizational priorities, goals, and deadlines are met by facilitating information sharing and decision-making between units within the division or in collaboration with other divisions, as relevant.

Contribute to and support operational, administrative, and strategic planning for the division, including leading certain internal work groups, conversations, and issue explorations.

Prepare, review, research and analyze processes, projects, reports, and data including executive summaries to the Chief, division, department, and organization leadership as relevant.

Provide counsel to the Chief and division leadership on current and alternate strategies for ongoing and emerging lines of work.

Translate strategies and priorities into concrete plans for the Chief and monitor progress. Ensure project priorities are clear, communicated throughout the project, and assigned to responsible staff. Ensure Chief is apprised of progress and engaged as needed.

Identify critical EDI or PCORI-wide issues requiring decisions or discussion and appropriately triage such topics to Chief and division leadership.

Oversee division- and PCORI-wide initiatives to respond to emerging priorities.

Represent and serve as a liaison for the Chief and office, as appropriate and warranted, at meetings.

Develop the annual budget and accompanying operating plan for the EDI Division, successfully overseeing its execution through the allocation and adjustment of staff resources needed to accomplish the work plan.

Promote a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion and a culture of collaboration in all responsibilities.

Directly supervise staff and interns, as needed, within the Office of the Chief.

Maintain policies and procedures related to division activities; develop internal/external guidance to support implementation of division-specific policies.

As appropriate, provide project leadership within division working closely with teams or carrying forward initiatives as necessary.
