The Houston Bar Association (“HBA”) is an Internal Revenue Code (“Code”) Section 501(c)(6) membership organization and the nation’s fifth largest metropolitan bar association. The mission of the HBA is to enhance the legal profession in the greater Houston community through serving our lawyers, promoting professionalism and the rule of law, and providing access to justice, legal education and high impact volunteerism.

Reporting to the HBA Executive Director, the Director of Human Resources (“HR Director”) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of human resources practices and processes within the Houston Bar Association. The Director of Human Resources will oversee all aspects of HR, including talent management, payroll, workers compensation, FMLA, and performance management aligned with the overall HBA mission, managing the recruitment and selection process, and fostering a positive work environment for the HBA and ancillary organizations.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic HR Management:

Develop and implement HR strategies and initiatives aligned with the association’s goals.

Serve as a strategic partner to the Executive Director and senior leadership team.

Recruitment and Staffing:

Oversee the recruitment and selection process to ensure the association attracts and retains top talent.

Develop job descriptions, post job openings, and conduct interviews.

Employee Relations:

Foster a positive work environment through effective employee relations programs.

Address employee grievances and resolve conflicts in a fair and consistent manner.

Performance Management:

Implement performance management systems to evaluate and improve employee performance.

Provide coaching and support to managers on performance-related issues.

Training and Development:

Identify training needs and develop programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge.

Coordinate and deliver training sessions and workshops.

Compensation and Benefits:

Oversee the administration of compensation and benefits programs.

Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Compliance and Risk Management:

Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.

Develop and implement policies and procedures to mitigate HR-related risks.

HR Metrics and Reporting:

Analyze HR metrics and provide reports to senior management for informed decision-making.

Monitor and report on workforce trends and issues.

Qualifications:

Skills:

Strong knowledge of HR best practices and employment laws.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Proven ability to manage and lead a team.

Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.

Proficiency in ADP software and Microsoft Office Suite.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. Master’s degree or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.

Experience: Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
