Performs complex medical work. Serves as Medical Director for student and employee health clinics.Conducts physical examinations and diagnostic evaluations of patients and obtains medical histories.Counsels patients on diet, hygiene, and preventive health care.Conducts chart reviews and participates in medical care quality improvement activities.Orders laboratory examinations and analyzes X-Rays.Prescribes medications and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.Orders and interprets diagnostic tests.Initiates, updates, and maintains patient medical records.May perform or assist in performing surgical operations.Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.Monitors ongoing medical treatment and reviews diagnostic studies.Consults with physicians and other treatment program staff on comprehensive health care.Prepares, presents, and participates in Health Promotion activities for university.May direct and coordinate the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.Serves as physician sponsor for Physician Assistant and Nurse Practitioner clinical staff.Supervises clinical standing orders for professional nursing staff.Reviews Blood Borne Pathogen Program annually.Serves on UTRGV Committees as assigned.Performs related duties as assigned.Minimum Qualifications

Terminal doctoral degree (MD or DO) from an accredited university in Medicine. Must possess or be eligible for a Texas Medical License. Must be qualified to hold a faculty appointment.One (1) year of directly related work experience. Knowledge of medical methods, procedures, and trends. Knowledge and experience working with diverse student populations.License or Certification Required?

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.Special Instructions to Applicants
