The Research Scientist 1 designs and implements data and specimen collection methodology tools and processes to respond to research questions/inquiries. Designs student schedules and assignments to ensure the proper and timely completion of work, the health/safety of the students and team members as well as the overall efficient operation of the section. Directs the daily technical operations of the laboratory, maintaining quality standards/procedures of the laboratory in order to meet CAP, The Joint Commission, AABB, CLIA as well as other regulatory agency requirements. Organizes and communicates research results, analysis and other information for written, graphic or multimedia academic productivity. Participates in routine testing procedures which require maintenance, repair, instrument calibration and result verification.

Requirements for consideration:

Minimum Education:

Bachelors Degree-Science or relevant field of study

Years of Experience:

2 years of experience in common genomic and proteomic techniques such as high throughput assays such as microarrays, qPCR, ELISA, Bio-Plex, etc. Demonstrated acuity with statistical and analytical skills necessary to assess data produced by the above techniques. Demonstrated communication skills necessary for the production of technical peer-reviewed manuscripts. Demonstrated ability to educate and manage students and staff toward completing complex research projects.

Job Responsibilities included but not limited to:

Researches, develops and employs appropriate data collection and methodology to maximize collection efficiency and minimize collection bias within specific project timelines.Develops investigator-initiated protocols for the conduct of research investigations, independently or in collaboration with other investigators, to support the goals of the department according to project objectives.Collaborates with other investigators in the design/development of adequate data collection and management systems to affect desired study outcomes.Trains Medical Laboratory Technician Students when assigned and updates/educates current team members as needed on new instruments or procedures.Maintains an adequate supply of inventory and orders approved supplies for section.Participates in budgeting for section and reviews financial reports to identify variances.Directs the daily technical operations of the section while maintaining quality standards and procedures to meet CAP, The Joint Commission, AABB, CLIA and other regulatory agency requirements.Other duties as assigned.
