About the Job

The Scientist II, Computational Biology will work as part of a new product team, focused on improving blood-based cancer diagnostic capabilities in areas such as cancer detection, minimum residual disease, and other related applications. This team is comprised of talent from across the Roche ecosystem, including Roche Diagnostics, Roche Pharma and Foundation Medicine, operating as a single unit.

The Scientist II, Computational Biology on the Computational Biology team collaborates with a multidisciplinary team of scientists by developing the computational analytics components of future products and enriching the analytical capabilities of existing products.

Key Responsibilities

Work in an interdisciplinary team of computational biologists, data scientists, molecular biologists, and software engineers focused on developing diagnostic products using massively parallel sequencing of nucleic acids from liquid biopsy samples.

Lead development of algorithms and new computational methods for identifying clinically-relevant genomic and epigenomic alterations in tumor DNA and RNA derived from clinical specimens.

Enhance and optimize existing methods, improving assay capabilities and technical robustness.

Oversee collaborative software development and validation efforts.

Process, analyze, and interpret high volumes of data for the development and validation of methods.

Incorporate new findings of cancer biology and data from novel molecular biology methods into existing computational pipelines.

Present scientific and technical data to colleagues in a clear and cohesive manner.

Work independently and prepare timetables, deliverables, and project schedules.

Assist in protecting intellectual property invented during product development.

Mentor junior colleagues and collaborate with project teams.

Other duties as assigned.
