At OSJL, we are committed to providing exceptional value to our customers while championing positive change in our communities and inspiring a more responsible model for retail.Job Description:The Corporate Litigation Counsel role at OSJL represents the Company in its litigation matters, handling matters in-house, particularly with regard to evictions, collections, contract disputes, and labor and employment matters. The Corporate Litigation Counsel role also leads and assists the General Counsel, Associate General Counsel and other Corporate Counsel at the Company in managing outside litigation counsel for larger matters. The Corporate Litigation Counsel role also assists the General Counsel and Associate General Counsel in other legal matters, as needed.Key Responsibilities:Direct and in-house prosecution of eviction of mostly commercial but some residential tenants.Direct and in-house prosecution of collections.Direct and in-house prosecution of contract disputes.Representation of the Company before cities and towns on planning board matters, variances, product violations and other regulatory matters, and liquor licensing matters.Defending the Company’s interests in bankruptcy matters.Direct and in-house prosecution and defense of small claims matters.Management of outside counsel on larger litigation matters.Advise the Company on general liability and workers’ compensation matters, and work with the Company’s risk management department and outside counsel in determining strategy for cases and settlement possibilities.Direct and in-house defense on all labor and employment matters, including, but not limited to, Company policies and procedures, FMLA, ADA, and discrimination and sexual harassment issues before state and federal agencies.Advise the Company on all potential and actual litigation matters.Effectively utilize virtual means to communicate efficiently and work independently under remote conditions as applicable.Qualifications:Admission in at least two, three preferred, bars of the following States of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and/or Connecticut is required and willingness to take additional bar exams as desired by the Company is encouraged, including the States of Maine, New Hampshire, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and/or Vermont.3-7 years of experience in a legal environment is required, with litigation experience.Proficiency in litigation, knowledge of Court and filing procedures and ability to work independently of paralegals and support staff is required.Experience with general liability and workers compensation matters is preferred.Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, as a member of a team, and ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities is required.Willingness to expand knowledge base to additional legal areas is required.Proficient with Google platform (i.e. Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets).Work Environment:Work primarily in the company locations, in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard potential. Sedentary, and frequent near vision use for reading and computer use.
