SEMCOA's (Southeast Massachusetts Council on Advocacy) mission is to advocate for and provide support to individuals, families, and communities in the areas of substance use, mental illness, domestic violence, homelessness, and parenting. SEMCOA operates four emergency assistance congregate family shelters and additional scattered sites that provide supportive services to families and assist them with securing permanent housing. SEMCOA also provides residential recovery home treatment to individuals with substance use disorders, as well as transitional and permanent housing stability and support programs. Our portfolio also includes two graduate sober houses, the Family Preservation Program, as well as Greater Brockton and Greater Attleboro Taunton Healthy Families programs.

Valid Driver's LicenseAn understanding of the relationship between substance use, domestic violence, mental health issues and homelessnessHouse Placement Specialist Duties & Responsibilities

Maintain participant confidentialityDevelop cooperative working relationships with landlords where families are residing and for future tenant opportunitiesMaintain contact with participants in accordance with DHCD requirementsDevelop economic stability plans and long term housing strategies with participantsIdentify, coordinate, and advocate for appropriate support services for all members of the familyHelp mitigate behavioral issues that would affect family's ability to sustain housingDevelop and modify monthly service plans for ongoing family needsAssist families in maximizing income and obtaining employment whenever possibleAssist in scheduling supportive services for participants related to job training and skills trainingAid families in compliance with lease requirementsAdvocate for participant to help maintain permanent housing placementMaintain thorough knowledge of public and private resources in the communityStrengthen current and create new partnerships with community resources to ensure that the families develop the skills needed to sustain housingUnderstand and comply with ETO/HMIS reporting requirementsWork and communicate with participant's Case Manager regarding families progress and address barriers to obtaining housingEnsure families' safety and well-being. Report all concerns/suspicions to supervisorHave thorough knowledge of 51A filing and company procedureUtilize universal/standard precautions at all timesDemonstrates behaviors that recognize the rights of participantsHouse Placement Specialist Qualifications

Minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or relevant work and/or life experience1 year of experience working with low income families of diverse cultural backgrounds strongly preferred
