JOB TITLE:

Lecturer,Asst- English

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming invites applications for a full-time, benefited, assistant lecturer of English, with a desired specialization in professional writing and technical Communication, the public humanities, and/or a related field. This is a one-year academic year lecturer position to teach sophomore and upper-division writing-intensive courses that satisfy UW's general education requirements, as well as administrative support of the department in helping to stand up UW's new PhD program in the public humanities. The appointment term is from August 2024 through May 2025, but may be renewed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The anticipated job percentages include 50% teaching (four courses annually, with the successful candidate being able to teach courses both onsite and online) and 50% administrative service in support of the PhD program and larger department: these percentages may shift given enrollment trends and the needs of the program/department. Primary teaching assignments will include a mix of ENGL 2005: Writing for Science and Technology and ENGL 4010: Technical Writing in the Professions, though other courses may be assigned.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMTION:

The English Department at the University of Wyoming is housed in College of Arts and Sciences. The department offers an undergraduate major with tracks in literary and English studies and minors in professional writing, creative writing, and literary studies. On the graduate level, we offer three MA tracks in 1) literature, 2) rhetoric, composition, and writing studies, and 3) the public humanities; an MFA in creative writing; and beginning in the fall of 2024, a PhD in the public humanities. Students who pursue our degrees will be prepared for a wide range of careers in K-12 and higher education, communication, non-profit work, business, law, marketing, cultural tourism, and many other fields. Graduates will find themselves ready to participate in a rapidly changing world where reading, writing, and critical analysis will help them succeed in whatever path they choose.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

SALARY RANGE:

$51,000 or commensurate with experience.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in English or a related field with university-level teaching experience.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A degree emphasis in rhetoric and writing studies and/or a public humanities related field.

Experience teaching scientific and technical writing and communication.

Experience with public humanities programming, grant administration, and website management and visual design.
