Position HighlightsThe chief of the Division of Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Surgery will provide strategic leadership and direction for all aspects of the division within the Department of Surgery. The chief will be responsible for all planning, policy, operations, and oversight of academic, research, and clinical programs of the division. The chief will have financial authority over the state-appropriated budget assigned to the division, extramural research funding received, philanthropic funding, and other financial matters for the division in accordance with applicable University policies and practices.This position reports directly to the chair of the Department of Surgery within the College of Medicine – Phoenix for all academic activities. Consistent with the Academic Affiliation Agreement (AAA) between the University of Arizona and Banner Health, the chief will have a matrix reporting relationship to the chief executive officer of the Banner – University Medical Group (B-UMG) and CEO of B-UMC (Phoenix) for all clinical activities conducted at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix.The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the Department of Surgery, actively participate in teaching, clinical service, and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.The successful candidate will meet the requirements of either a career track or tenure track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.Duties & ResponsibilitiesFaculty affairsEducational and training programsResearch programsPatient care programsRecruitment and retention of diverse faculty and staffPhysician lead for Gastrointestinal and Abdominal Surgery services at Banner HealthMinimum QualificationsPossess an MD, DO, or equivalent degree from an accredited institution.Be board certified by the American Board of Surgery and be eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in the State of Arizona.Be eligible for a University of Arizona academic appointment at the associate professor level or higher.Be eligible for medical staff membership at B—UMCP.Have at least five years of progressively complex administrative experience (e.g., program leader, center/section director, etc.) in an academic medical center setting.Demonstrate a track record of national distinction in teaching, clinical care, and research discovery in an academic department of surgery or comparable environment.Demonstrate a commitment to patient care, reflecting a service-oriented, team-based philosophy with hospital administration and health professional colleagues from all disciplines, departments, and specialties.Have a successful track record of recruitment and development of faculty, trainees, and students.Show evidence of successful program building beyond one’s own research group.Preferred QualificationsHave an additional health profession degree (e.g., PhD, MPH, MS, etc.).Have experience in the development and successful implementation of new academic (educational, patient care, research) programs and services.Demonstrate collaborative engagement with the private practice community for mutual benefit in program development and patient care.Exhibit outstanding leadership in a major subspecialty division/section at an academic institution.Possess clinical experience in colorectal surgery or abdominal wall reconstruction.Contact Information for CandidatesOffice of Academic and Faculty Affairscomphx-oafa@arizona.eduOpen Date : 6/24/2024Open Until Filled : YesDocuments Needed to Apply : Curriculum Vitae (CV), Cover Letter, and One Additional DocumentSpecial Instructions to Applicant : Application: The online application should be completed in its entirety.
