Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Software Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight.

The Software Engineer's primary responsibility is to work as a member of the Global Track Processing software development team to design, develop, test, and investigate innovative solutions contributing to the Missile Defense program. Non-standard work hours are possible during key events, and a small amount of travel may be required.

Essential Functions:

Critical to the mission is the Global Track Processing (GTP) team, which strives to present accurate global situational awareness via raw sensor data to the warfighter.

The selected software engineer will thrive in an environment requiring maintenance and development of Java-based applications heavily reliant on efficient algorithm development & linear algebra.

Tackle difficult problems through collaboration and camaraderie and lead the team across the finish line.

Collaboration mandates excellent written and communication skills; well-articulated documentation in software, technical memorandums, white papers, and technical presentations are part of daily activities.

Analyze high-level needs and define a structured approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that lead to a fielded product.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree in a STEM discipline and 7 years of related experience, or a PhD and 4 years of related experience, or 13 years related experience in lieu of a degree.

Current active in-scope U.S. Government DoD issued Secret security clearance required to start.

Understanding of the software development life cycle.

Understanding of object-oriented software development and automated testing.

Effective communication skills with experience writing and implementing project reports and plans.

3+ years of Java development experience writing unit-testable operational code and unit tests.

2+ years experience working in a Linux-based environment.

2+ years working with GIT in Linux, and 2+ years with Jira and Confluence.

1+ years of software modeling using UML.

1+ years writing & presenting technical documentation to diverse audiences.

Experience with Object-Oriented paradigms and Software Design Patterns.

Ability and willingness to travel 10% to support business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

Red Hat / CentOS / Oracle Linux experience.

Use of Eclipse, Matlab, Visio, & Enterprise Architect is desired.

Software design using Systems Modeling Language (SysML) is desired.

Fluent in BaSH or similar scripting is desired.

Automated test-driven & continuous integration development is desired.

Experience with Linear algebra is desired.

Agile methodology is desired.

Salary Range:

$121,000 - $181,400
