Northrop Grumman Space Systems – Launch and Missile Defense Systems has an exciting career opportunity for a Sr Principal Software Engineer – Global Software Developer (24-274) to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be at Schriever Space Force Base, Colorado Springs, CO.

Position Overview:

The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program integrates the Missile Defense System. It is a vital operational system that enables the U.S. president, secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels to systematically plan ballistic missile defense operations, to see the battle develop collectively, and to dynamically manage designated networked sensors and weapons systems to achieve global and regional mission objectives. C2BMC supports a layered missile defense capability that enables an optimized response to threats of all ranges in all phases of flight. C2BMC is the force multiplier that globally and regionally networks integrate, synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations to optimize performance. C2BMC is integral to all system ground and flight tests, which verify and exercise all current and future missile defense system capabilities.

The Global Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications program is a dynamic and fast-paced environment. The Software Engineer's primary responsibility is to work as a member of the Global Track Processing (GTP) software development team to design, develop, test, and investigate innovative solutions contributing to the Missile Defense program. Non-standard work hours are possible during critical events, and a small amount of travel may be required.

Essential Functions:

Must have knowledge and experience of the Global Track Processing (GTP), which is critical to the mission, and strives to present accurate global situational awareness via raw sensor data to the warfighter.

GTP is seeking a software engineer who will thrive in an environment that requires maintenance and development of Java-based applications heavily reliant on efficient algorithm development and linear algebra.

The candidate must be eager to tackle difficult problems through collaboration and comradery.

This engineer jumps at the opportunity to assist his team across the finish line and accepts, on occasion, to be dragged!

Collaboration mandates excellent written and communication skills; well-articulated documentation in clearly documented software, technical memorandums, white papers, software modeling, and technical presentations are part of daily activities.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 9 years of related experience, or a Master's Degree and 7 years of related experience, or a PhD and 4 years of related experience, or 13 years related experience in lieu of a degree.

Must understand the software development life cycle.

Must understand object-oriented software development and automated testing.

Must be able to analyze high-level needs and define a structured and logical approach to refine the capability into an integrated set of requirements that lead to a fielded product that would be a significant addition.

Must communicate effectively, clearly present technical approaches and findings, and have experience writing and implementing project reports, plans, and status.

GTP software engineer is expected to have the following professional practical experience:

3+ years of Java development experience writing unit-testable operational code and unit tests exercising said code.

2+ years in a Linux-based (preferably Red Hat / CentOS / Oracle Linux) environment.

2+ years with Jira and Confluence.

1+ years of software modeling using UML.

1+ years writing & presenting technical documentation to audiences ranging from team members to non-technical customers.

REQUIRED THEORETICAL EXPERIENCE - Object-Oriented paradigms.

Preferred Qualifications:

Use of Eclipse, Matlab, Visio, & Enterprise Architect.

Software design using Systems Modeling Language (SysML).

Fluent in BaSH (Bourne-Again Shell) or similar scripting. Automated test-driven & continuous integration development.

DESIRED THEORETICAL EXPERIENCE - Linear algebra and Agile methodology.
