Job Description - SKW Research Associate (240001UH)DescriptionThis position sits with Safe Kids Worldwide (SKWW), a subsidiary of Children's National. Safe Kids Worldwide is a nonprofit organization working to reduce unintentional injuries to children ages 0-14 and build equitable and sustained systems that support injury prevention. Safe Kids works with strategic partners and an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the U.S. to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, sleep-related deaths, falls, burns, poisonings, and more. We achieve this work through a public health approach that includes research, interventions to educate and raise awareness, safety device distribution, and advocacy at the federal, state, and local levels.QualificationsMinimum EducationMPH Master of Public Health. Demonstrated training or expertise in one injury risk area at minimum. (Required)Minimum Work Experience2 years Professional technical writing experience. (Required)Required Skills/KnowledgeStrong verbal and written skills to effectively communicate with prospects and program partners.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Knowledge of STATA, SPSS, SAS, or other statistical software, advanced level computer skills with Microsoft Word, Microsoft Office product suite.Experience in creating survey forms in Survey Monkey, Qualtrics, or other survey platform preferred.Detail-oriented, able to work independently and on multiple priorities in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. The ability to work effectively with other staff and to follow approved Safe Kids Worldwide procedures and policies.Functional AccountabilitiesSupports data collection, research, evaluation, and the formation of proposals and reports.Conducts data analyses using new and existing data sets.Provides data and statistical information to support Programs, Development, Advocacy, Network, and Communications teams as directed.Updates SKW fact sheets, fast facts, and other resources with the latest child injury data and statistics.Supports tracking of sources of childhood injury data and where appropriate data collection.Supports SKW utilization of national injury databases for grant writing, program planning, and media use.Supports the Research Team in developing IRB protocols, packages, and IRB submissions.Participates in program evaluation activities including selection and refinement of evaluation measures, drafting data collection tools, analyzing evaluation data, drafting of results and program recommendations, and presenting statistics/evaluation findings in program webinars.Reviews data on existing prevention programs and evaluates its usefulness to SKW.Develops, disseminates, and tracks responses to surveys using Survey Monkey.Participates in research proposal development including selection and refinement of study measures and drafting of data collection instruments.Assists in drafting SKW research reports.Ensures technical accuracy of SKW research, programs, and communications.Monitors scholarly journals through SafetyLit to increase knowledge base in current injury research methodology and developments across all risk areas.Reviews published articles in injury prevention field, shares with staff as appropriate and maintains electronic copies of articles.Provides strategies and assistance to develop injury prevention programs and advocacy initiatives based on research and statistical data from injury prevention field.Consults with programs staff on research needs and programmatic direction and monitoring, as requested.Offers new and updated injury prevention information to support Safe Kids Worldwide communications, including media outreach and organizational website.Coordinates and gathers data and information for SKW resources and products as directed.Provides accurate and timely responses to both internal and external requests for injury prevention statistics and resources.Provides assistance to coalitions with statistical information and facts on childhood injuries and injury prevention.Serves as a resource for coalitions collecting and analyzing state and local injury data when directed.Represents Safe Kids Worldwide as an alternate on various research and academic committees and advisory groups when needed.Represents Safe Kids Worldwide at meetings and conferences, to offer injury prevention expertise, promote Safe Kids Worldwide research programs and activities and bring back new knowledge.Works collaboratively with staff, sponsors, agency representatives, and outside partners to facilitate flow of information and foster strong working relationships.Supports efforts to strengthen SKW research capacity through partnership.Facilitates papers and presentations documenting SKW research findings.Coordinates and presents SKW information and research findings to coalition coordinators, sponsors, and outside organizations as directed.Co-authors papers and presentations documenting SKW research findings for submission to peer-reviewed scholarly journals and academic conferences.Provides leadership and assistance for program workshops at annual SKW Leadership Conference (PrevCon).Anticipate and responds to customer needs; follows up until needs are met.Teamwork/CommunicationDemonstrate collaborative and respectful behavior.Partner with all team members to achieve goals.Receptive to others’ ideas and opinions.Performance Improvement/Problem-solvingContribute to a positive work environment.Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to change.Identify opportunities to improve clinical and administrative processes.Make appropriate decisions, using sound judgment.Use resources efficiently.Search for less costly ways of doing things.SafetySpeak up when team members appear to exhibit unsafe behavior or performance.Continuously validate and verify information needed for decision making or documentation.Stop in the face of uncertainty and takes time to resolve the situation.Demonstrate accurate, clear and timely verbal and written communication.Actively promote safety for patients, families, visitors and co-workers.Attend carefully to important details - practicing Stop, Think, Act and Review in order to self-check behavior and performance.Primary Location
