Job Description
POSITION SUMMARY: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position, as second in command of branch operations, is responsible for day-to-day general administration of branch programs including staff supervision, budget and expense control, income generation, program development, and quality control. The Associate Branch Director also provides direction and leadership for the achievement of association goals in accordance with the policies, procedures, and standards established by the Board. The Associate Executive Director will manage specific program areas assigned by the Executive Director. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Review and appraise the effectiveness of directly supervised personnel and make appropriate training recommendations or staff changes where necessary. Assist with the development of the annual business plan for each branch or program and assure that the branch staff has appropriate input and ownership in this process. With the assistance of the Executive Director, responsible for successfully achieving the annual staff campaign goal, while assisting in other fundraising functions including but not limited to community campaign and major gifts. Assist with recruitment and cultivation of advisory board members, while also participating in committee work. Assist the Executive Director in continually reviewing and evaluating key performance measures regarding staff, membership, programs, customer service, advisory board, fiscal operations, and the physical plant to ensure continuous improvements and all community needs are met. Involves the appropriate people, develops and executes corrective action plans. With assistance of Executive Director, develops and administers a maintenance and housekeeping plan for the facility. Implement the plan, monitor the program, and take corrective actions in a timely manner. Supervise employees in assigned accountabilities, monitor site operation and scheduling, and verify time sheets and actual hours worked. Identify training needs and initiate development activities of supervisees. With the Executive Director, recommend effective personnel management actions (i.e., employee counseling process). Assure that new employees complete orientation and training according to established guidelines and provide on-the-job training as required by supervisees. Ensure duties, responsibilities, and accountabilities of all direct reports are defined and understood. Ensure that the individual understands the standards for acceptable performance. Notify Human Resource Department of job openings, follow hiring, terminations, and interview process. Be a part of making the final selection and maintain qualified staff. Ability to empower staff and to delegate appropriate responsibilities involved in day-to-day operations is essential. Must demonstrate a clear understanding of the branch and associations relationships with the community. The human relationship aspect of this position is very important. The personality, attitude, and conduct of the Associate Executive combined with the Executive Director sets the climate of relationships, and the incumbent's skills in relating to individuals and groups determine the eventual effectiveness of the organization. Provides support, whenever needed, to Association initiatives. Serves as staff for selected committees and teams. Complete other duties as assigned. Responsible for following the child abuse and neglect reporting process including completion of Suspected Child Abuse/Neglect reporting form, calling children's protective services (696-Kids) and notifying your immediate Supervisor, Branch Executive, Risk Management and Human Resources Department(s). All employees of the YMCA of Greater Cleveland are mandated reporters for any signs or suspicion of child abuse and neglect. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Or Associate’s Degree in a related field and two to three years of related work experience in YMCA Branch Operations. Or High School Diploma/GED and 10 years of related work experience in YMCA Branch Operations. Experience: Three years of experience as a supervisor and/or fiscal manager required. Certification(s) and Requirements: CPR and First Aid certification and Safety training required within 30 days of hire. Must have or attain YMCA Team Leader certification within 3 years of assuming this position. Technical Skills and Knowledge: Must possess the insights and skills of modern management (ex. Continuous improvement) to achieve the goals and objectives of the organization through the efforts of other people. Ability to think strategically is essential. Willingness and ability to model the key attributes; Welcoming, Genuine, Hopeful, Nurturing and Determined. Demonstrate commitment to the mission and cause of the YMCA and uphold its values and ethics. Ability to work effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must have the ability to perform frequent amounts of sitting, standing and walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, bending. Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Ability to work in a moderate to noisy work environment. Ability to multitask in a changing environment.
