Primary Duties and Responsibilities:The Dean, Counseling, Advising and Transfer Services is an experienced and people-driven student affairs leader who is ready to engage with counseling and advising faculty to create a foundation that leads to completion and student success. The Dean will lead the counseling team to offer programming that drives students' well-being. In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Advising and Transfer and faculty advisors, the role will engage with enrollment departments and academic faculty to enhance offerings that lead to student retention and success.
In addition, the Dean leads strategies designed to meet the changing needs of an increasingly diverse population of students and brings expertise while working collaboratively with others across the campus community. The role helps to advance student retention and completion initiatives and student affairs goals that empower and strengthen student learning and success. The Dean provides direction and oversees more than 40 faculty and staff members responsible for responding to issues critical to students' educational experiences and development, addresses inequities in access by developing policy and practical solutions, and leads the design, development, implementation, assessment, and continuous improvement of programs and services. This position will oversee departmental functions, staff and budgetary management; adoption of tools and services for student mental health, counseling and wellness activities; and the academic advising and transfer services for the College.
In collaboration with the Associate Dean of Advising and Transfer Services, the Dean will create comprehensive programming for the campus that meets the needs of students by making sure each student has a person and a plan to guide them in their educational journey.
Qualifications:Education
A master's degree in psychology, counseling, student affairs administration, higher education, or a related field and significant and progressive relevant college leadership and/or student affairs experience required.Licensed as: LCSW or licensed clinical psychologist, or eligible LCSW or LCPC in Illinois is preferred.Doctorate in Counseling, Psychology, Student Affairs or Higher Education preferred.
Experience
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in higher education to include two (2) years in a leadership role required. Three (3) years of counseling experience, preferably in a higher education setting required.Demonstrated success in administration and/or student affairs, and experience with traditional, adult and non-traditional learners required.Dynamic leadership and excellent communication skills required.Flexibility with the ability to be a collaborative team player required.Demonstrated commitment to student success, outcomes-based education and sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse population required.Required to be skilled in articulating and implementing collaborative models of service, and a strong commitment to creating equitable and inclusive campus environments, systems, programs, and policies.Demonstrated ability to foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for students, faculty, staff, and colleagues.Expertise in serving a counseling and/or advising department within a complex and diverse campus preferred.Experience working in a community college or public university with a centralized advising model preferred.Experience working with faculty in a union environment preferred.
