The Manager of Human Resources (HR Business Partner) provides a full range of high-level Human Resources support for colleagues at Pepperdine’s West Los Angeles and Irvine Graduate Campuses. With a primary office in West Los Angeles, this role is responsible for strategic and operational workforce support for West Los Angeles and Irvine constituents.

As a member of the University’s Human Resources team, the Manager provides the highest quality service to employees, supervisors, and executive leadership. Reflecting the University's mission and values in all interactions, this position is critical to attracting, retaining, and developing the best workforce for Pepperdine University.DutiesProvide superior service to hiring managers engaged in the recruitment process, assisting with drafting position descriptions, job postings, advertisements, applicant communications, interviews, offers of employment, etc.Provide guidance and direction to supervisors through employee lifecycle changes including transfers, promotions, pay raises, title changes, separations, etc.Provide day-to-day guidance and support to department leaders regarding performance management, documentation, and progressive discipline.Supervise the HR Operations Coordinators and ensure appropriate coverage for the Human Resources offices in West LA and Irvine. Serve as a backup for the Operations Coordinators and oversee the staff onboarding and offboarding process.Execute employee engagement initiatives including event set-up, preparation of materials, and delivery of workshops. Answer basic HR questions regarding workers’ compensation, leaves of absences, and employee benefits.In partnership with HR leadership, drive operational efficiencies and advance key HR initiatives through the management and completion of special projects.Build and maintain positive, effective relationships with constituents to improve employee engagement and experience across the University.Maintain knowledge of University policies, applicable laws, and best practices affecting human resources functions and ensure policies and procedures are applied compliantly and consistently.Be on point to respond to emergencies and serve as Critical Support Personnel.Perform other duties as assigned.Uphold the University mission through work performed.Skills and QualificationsRequired: Bachelor's degree. 2-3 years' experience in human resources, higher education, or a related field. Exceptional written and oral communication skills; Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; Strong attention to detail; Strong critical thinking and analytical skills; Ability to use discretion when handling sensitive and confidential issues; ability to organize and prioritize changing workload; ability to work harmoniously, professionally, and effectively with co-workers and supervisors; Must dress professionally; Supportive of the University’s Christian mission; Ability to integrate the University's Christian mission with HR practice. Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; Proficient in Google Workspace; Previous database system experience. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with employees. Ability to anticipate and identify problems and use sound judgment and fact-based analysis to develop effective and efficient solutions. Demonstrated application of judgment based on experience and knowledge.Preferred: Knowledge of California employment law; Previous experience in employment processing; Previous experience in higher education; Previous affiliation with Pepperdine University. Experience with PeopleSoft HCM, Kronos, HireRight, Form I-9 Compliance; Advanced MS Word and Excel skills. Presentation skills necessary to facilitate training and/or deliver informational sessions to groups and/or individuals. Thorough knowledge of human resources concepts, policies and procedures, employment practices, labor relations, salary administration, training and other areas of human resources.
