The Educational Advisor is responsible for providing academic guidance and assistance to a diverse student body, with specific emphasis on low-income, first-generation, college-bound middle and high school students. The Advisor will perform several duties, including working one-on-one and in small groups and providing college readiness assistance: tutoring to ensure students pass grade level; helping with college application and financial aid form completion; conducting workshops; prepping students for the ACT; and organizing and recruiting students for leadership conferences and college tours, all with the end goal of increasing the college enrollment rate of low-income and first-generation students. This position reports to the Director of Educational Talent Search. This position will work primarily off-site at a high school, with daily contact with high school students and personnel, with one day per week in office at Roosevelt University’s Chicago campus.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:A bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.Demonstrated ability to successfully work with students of diverse cultural, economic, and academic backgrounds, with specific work being done with low-income and first-generation college-bound students.Experience in advising, mentoring, and guiding students through the college access process.Excellent organizational, communication (written and verbal), interpersonal skills and attention to detail.Ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships with students, staff, school personnel, parents, and community partners.Ability to demonstrate a commitment to service excellence by embodying Roosevelt’s core values, mission, and vision in every aspect of the role working with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.A positive and professional demeanor is a must.Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.Years of Experience Required:

Normal climate-controlled office environment is provided. Job is largely sedentary, but there is a need to move about the office, classrooms, and buildings frequently. Occasional bending, stooping, lifting, pushing and/or pulling is required (typically less than 10 pounds of weight or pressure). Regular use of desktop computer is required, calling for frequent hand/wrist movement and repetition. Moderate level of stress. Occasional overnight travel within the local or regional setting may be required. This position will share individual workspaces with other counselors and staff and be supplied with office equipment to perform job duties.Essential Job Functions:Meets with students, usually a caseload of about 200+ students, on a regular basis to provide academic advising, information and assistance related to successful school completion, college matriculation, and financial aid.Recruit students and maintain accurate records, contacts, exit information and provide timely follow-up.Coordinate workshops for students, parents, teachers; participate and assist with planning college/university visitations and cultural visits.Posting Specific Questions:
