As a Senior Mechatronics Engineer, you will be participating in the research, development and deployment of AI enabled robot cells for material handling and logistics applications. You will collaborate with Operations, Software, and Machine Learning teams to research, design, integrate, test and deploy new robotic hardware including: robot cell designs, end effectors, cameras, lighting, HW control devices (PLCs, I/O couplers, sensors, etc), pneumatics, actuators, custom mechanisms. We value candidates who are passionate about what they build, feel a strong sense of ownership over their work, are driven to succeed and appreciate a harmonious work environment.
What you'll be doing
Working closely with the VP of Hardware.Researching, designing, prototyping, and testing ML enabled robotic automation systems.High level system design of hardware controls using off the shelf devices (io couplers, PLCs, sensors, etc).Designing detailed pneumatic systems.Collaborating and managing domestic & off-shore integrator partners to co-develop and deploy our robot cells.Performing cost benefit analyses to determine the technical feasibility, cost implications, and performance benefits of new mechatronic systems.Writing technical specifications.Performing test and characterization of electro-mechanical & optical systems.Supporting internal engineering teams by troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems to make sure equipment is operational for both demos and development.Experience & Skills You'll Need
3+ years of machine design / mechatronics experience in industry.Experience with pneumatic system / detail design.Experience with hardware system design-specifying, designing & integrating off-the-shelf controls hardware for cell control logic.Experience with 3D printing as well as designing for, sheet metal, CNC and welding.Strong Solidworks CAD design experience. Capable of creating and maintaining complex assemblies and subassemblies.Software/Scripting skills (python, etc).Familiarity with motion control components such as motors, encoders, linear actuators, pneumatics, and sensors.Demonstrated ability to engage with partners and third parties to support the design, fabrication, assembly & test of complex mechatronic systems.Comfort around machine tools and ability to fabricate concepts in-house.Experience managing multiple projects and balancing competing priorities.Exceptional written and verbal communication with an emphasis on teamwork and organizational skills.A strong work ethic and a willingness to learn in a small team-based environment.Experience (or enthusiastic about) working in a fast paced environment.Ability to work from the office 4-5 days a week.Willingness to travel (limited).Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required (we do sponsor H1B transfers).Bonus if You Have
Experience in the development of Industrial controls systems; including the use of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs).Experience programming articulated Industrial Robots (Fanuc, Kuka, Yaskawa, etc.).Experience with ROBOGUIDE or other robot simulation software and system Animation tools, used to create, program, and simulate a robotic workcell in 3-D.Experience with robotic End of Arm Tool design.Experience with 2D & 3D Vision systems (Cognex, Datalogic, Keyence, Sick, Custom etc.).
