Wildland Fire Management Supervisors (Regulation & Prevention Technician)
for the Arcadia Fire Control program. These positions are based out of Deer Park, WA. The district consists of diverse fuel types that range from agriculture/shrub, steppe/dry ponderosa pine to hemlock/subalpine fir forests.The Arcadia District is responsible for wildfire suppression, prevention, and regulation on all or parts of four counties (Spokane, Pend Oreille, Stevens, and Lincoln) including one hundred thousand acres of state trust land. The Arcadia District conducts suppression actions on approximately 300 fire starts annually, processes approximately 400 burn permit requests, and provides training courses to our local cooperators. A large part of the Arcadia District is located in the Wildland Urban Interface of the greater Spokane area. Interagency cooperation occurs in the majority of wildland fires and most fire training courses in the Arcadia District.Responsibilities:
Under the direction of the Assistant Fire Management Officer for Regulation, the Regulation & Prevention Technician position has great influence on the quality, image, and message delivered to the general public of Washington State. This position works closely with community partners and other agencies and plays a leadership role in fire suppression activities.The majority of the duties will include administering and approving burn permits, interpreting/applying fire regulations and IFPL restrictions, conducting wildland fire investigations, and fire suppression. This position will act as a Wildland Fire Investigator regularly. The Regulation & Prevention Technician works closely with fire suppression resources to suppress and prevent the spread of wildland fire.Other duties will include but are not limited to being a lead and/or unit instructor for NWCG fire courses for wildland fire training and leading and participating in wildland fire prevention activities. The Arcadia District is a fast-paced and complex work environment that requires an individual who will work within the team's goals and dynamics to be successful.Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GEDExperience with:
Firefighting techniques, practices, terminology, equipment, and other resources for wildland fire management.Wildland fire regulatory practices and burn permit processes.Fire weather technology, weather’s effect on various fuel types, and knowledge of weather as it influences fire behavior.Demonstrated experience professionally communicating with a variety of groups including subordinates, superiors, the public, and other partner organizations.Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining cooperative, effective working relationships both internally and externally.
NWCG Qualifications:
Single Resource Boss (Or the ability to attain within 1 calendar year)Incident Commander Type 5
Must annually pass the work capacity test at the arduous level.Proven experience in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, mapping, and Global Positioning technology.Commitment to fostering and supporting an environment that honors diversity, equity, inclusion, and environmental justice practices.General knowledge of conducting Wildland Fire Origin and Cause Determination investigations.DNR Core Competencies:

Special Requirements and Conditions of Employment:
The fire suppression work is strenuous outdoor work in all weather conditions. Must be able to traverse uneven and mountainous terrain.This position will be assigned an agency vehicle and requires significant driving and field visits within geographically assigned areas.A valid unrestricted driver’s license and have two years of driving experience.Desired Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Natural Resources, or related field with two years of wildland fire fighting experience.NWCG Qualifications:
2 NWCG Single Resource Boss qualifications (1 must either be Engine Boss or Crew Boss)NWCG Incident Commander Type 4NWCG Wildland Fire Investigator
