You’ll be responsible for conducting large animal surgeries, ensuring daily animal care, providing post-operative care, maintaining the health of large animal cases, and collaborating with various departments within the School of Medicine. Your work will help advance our understanding of how the cardiac nervous system contributes to heart disease. Our research involves the collection of electrophysiologic and neural data in both human subjects and animal models of cardiovascular disease. Our experiments with animal models encompass surgical dissection, recording fundamental hemodynamic and electrical activities, and analyzing tissue chemicals and proteins.We’re seeking an independent, self-motivated, detail-oriented professional with:DVM degree or equivalentAbility to perform technical procedures in a timely and accurate mannerIn-depth knowledge of veterinary practice related to laboratory animal medicineExceptional interpersonal skillsAbility to keep accurate recordsUnderstanding of pre- and post-surgical care of laboratory animalsFamiliarity with IACUC protocols, specifically regarding animal care, analgesia, anesthesia, surgical and non-surgical procedures, and euthanasiaKnowledge of federal, state, and institutional regulations governing the use and care of laboratory animalsUCLA Health is a world-renowned health system with four award-winning hospitals and more than 270 community clinics throughout Southern California as well as the David Geffen School of Medicine. Required:Skills to perform technical procedures in a timely and accurate mannerDetailed knowledge in the practice of veterinary medicine focused on laboratory animal medicineDemonstrated ability to work well with othersAbility to work on routine assignments with minimal supervisionDVM degree or equivalentDemonstrated ability to keep accurate recordsDetailed knowledge of pre- and post-surgical care of laboratory animalsExperience reviewing IACUC protocols, specifically the sections pertaining to animal care, analgesia, anesthesia, surgical and non-surgical procedures and euthanasia in a variety of laboratory animal speciesDetailed knowledge of federal, state and institutional regulations governing the use and care of laboratory animals.
