Role Summary
Our Pose Team is a diverse group of algorithm developers/software engineers focused on delivering mapping, localization, and calibration solutions hosted on the vehicle and in the Cloud. Pose is a core capability of the autonomy stack delivering products to Perception, Prediction, Planning, Control, and others. As a Software Engineer on the Pose team, you will work on and provide technical leadership for a wide variety of sensor suite calibration problems including real-time algorithm development.
Responsibilities
Develop and write custom calibration algorithms for calibration of Rivian's Autonomy sensor suite which includes cameras, IMU, lidar, and radar.Algorithm development with a focus on estimating extrinsic and intrinsic calibration parameters for the entire sensor suite using state of the art nonlinear optimization techniques.Develop these algorithms and implement them in C++ using good software development practices. Analyze performance and KPIs using Python.Integrate these algorithms into our autonomous vehicle architecture for real-time onboard calibration.Technical leadership of small teams involved in these activities.
Qualifications
M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, or a related field.3+ years of robotics, AV (Autonomous Vehicle), or other real-time, safety-critical experience.Research and development experience in one or more of the following areas:SLAM / Factor GraphsSensor calibrationSensor fusionStochastic estimation/Kalman filteringAutonomous Vehicles/ADASStrong C/C++ programming skills and experience, including demonstrating, promoting and mentoring best software engineering practices.Ability to work in a fast-paced development environment.Good team player with great communication and leadership skills.Passionately motivated to take ideas from R&D phase to a product.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with computer vision, IMU, camera, LiDAR, and radar.Non-linear optimization, batch estimation.Experience with ground truth algorithms and algorithm evaluation.Adapting algorithms for real world use cases, considering corner cases, using imperfect data.Embedded software development experience.Software development for safety critical systems (ISO 26262).
Pay Disclosure
Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $179,000.00 - $223,800.00 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law).Benefits Summary: Rivian provides robust medical/Rx, dental and vision insurance packages for full-time employees, their spouse or domestic partner, and children up to age 26. Coverage is effective on the first day of employment, and Rivian covers most of the premiums.
