Under the general direction of the Quality Assurance (QA) Director, the raw material scientist is responsible for developing specifications, validating, and approving raw materials use in the manufacture of Monster Energy products on a global basis. In addition, the raw material scientist will work closely with new product development, purchasing and contract manufacturers to oversee and manage blend uniformity validations of vitamin and energy blends to ensure compliance to relevant regulatory requirements and company standards.Essential Job Functions:Work side by side with the QA Director in executing the raw material approval program by developing specifications, validating and approving raw materials, raw material program implementation and tracking of key milestones.Serve as subject matter expert (SME) in resolving ingredient performance issues, test requirements/methods and resolving manufacturing issues to ensure compliance to Monster Energy requirements.Perform risk assessment exercises associated with the raw materials approval program.Manage investigations related to ingredient deviations and out of specification events, both in-process and as related to consumer complaints.Develop and execute validation protocols for new/revised powder blends.Conduct audits of ingredient manufacturers, powder blend operations, flavor houses and contract laboratory facilities as necessary to support the raw material approval process.Conduct laboratory investigations as needed with contract testing laboratories.Assist in the management of the Raw Material Extension Program and Database.Personal responsibility for following safety rules, SOPs and cGMPs guidelines.Responsible for the procurement of raw materials, goods and services for the manufacturing facility.Approve and qualify vendors, obtain quotations, examine bids and make awards.Develop sources and evaluate vendor reliability.Perform other duties as assigned.Position Requirements:More than 5 years of experience working with a food, dietary supplement or pharma manufacturer.Between 3-5 years of experience with supplier qualification, powder blending, risk management, deviation investigations.Working knowledge of global pharmacopeias such as USP, EP, JP, BP, Ph. Eur.Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Engineering, Life Sciences or other related technical degree, Master’s degree preferred.Must be able to perform with minimal direction, must be team-oriented and willing to work collaboratively.Must have demonstrated initiative and desire to work in a dynamic work environment with multiple demands.Must be detail-oriented and be able to follow written and oral instructions. Must be able to multi-task and follow-up when responses are needed.Travel: Between 25%-40% monthly.Base Pay Range: $25.20 - $33.60 per hour.
