More than ever, Ceva is committed to a "One Health" approach.Your missions:The Bioinformatics Immunologist will contribute to the development of vaccines within the Bioinformatics development group (BFX). He will help select bioinformatics tools, validate, and write code for in-house bioinformatics tools. He will analyze genomic and immunological data using computer tools, and bridge with AI methods when relevant.
The successful candidate will interact daily with external collaborators and with Ceva laboratory scientists, understand the intricacies of molecular virology/bacteriology, and the host response to vaccination and infection. The daily tasks of the Bioinformatics Immunologist will entail heavy bioinformatics pipelines via commercially or publicly available bioinformatics tools and/or custom-made bioinformatics tools.
We are looking to support passionate, self-motivated scientists with a clear vision to take on high-risk research ideas and move the field of bioinformatics, virology/bacteriology, and immunology forward. We are open to applicants with expertise in the area of computational biology, assuming it is coupled with molecular biology or human or animal immunology knowledge/experience.
Programming experience is required. Advanced algorithm-level coding experience is not necessary, but the successful applicant must be willing to learn/teach and converse with data science-oriented scientists. Collaboration with and mentoring of junior scientists is expected.Responsibilities and Key Duties:BioinformaticsBuild and improve bioinformatics pipelines for vaccine design;Select and utilize current bioinformatics tools and pipeline for molecular and immunological data analysis;Train colleagues on bioinformatics approaches;Design, implement, and support pathogen sequence and host immune response data and metadata standards and associated processes and solutions.CodingWrite code and scripts, design algorithms and pipelines;Proficient in at least one computer language - Python (preferable), R or JavaScript.Core Competencies:· Shape solutions out of complexity - Is open and curious of other’s perspectives;· Collaborate with empathy - Has a positive attitude towards collaboration;· Engage and develop - Clarifies short-term directions;· Drive ambition and accountability - Proactively manages own and others work;· Client focus - Has in mind client's satisfaction;· Influence others - Communicates transparently.Your profile:Technical / Functional Competencies:Advanced immunology and molecular biology principles;Functional knowledge of animal infectious diseases;Basic grasp of machine learning (shallow or deep);Desired computer skills:o Computer languages – Python (preferable), R or JavaScript,o Bioinformatic analyses using publicly available code or commercial programs,o Data analysis within those computer languages,o Database manipulation and good practices,o Automation with CI tools, Snakemake or Nextflow;Good communication skills – both written and verbal.Qualifications:EducationPh.D. in Biology: Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics or Computer Science or comparable/related field. Post-doctoral experience preferred.
