UHN Animal Resource Centre (ARC) Manager , reporting directly to Program Head, oversees all aspects of daily operations of multiple UHN Animal Facilities. The Animal Resource Centre department operates five (5) physical sites which include specialized areas such as exclusion barriers, biohazard areas, behaviour imaging and surgical suites. This position is responsible for the effective coordination, supervision, and management of the staff, facility, and equipment. The ARC Manager ensures that all tasks are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner while adhering to applicable institutional Policies & Guidelines, Provincial and Federal legislation. This position is responsible for ensuring the care and management of animals, ensuring animal health and welfare are a priority while supporting animal-based research. The incumbent will assist the ARC Team in establishing and maintaining effective communication with users of the facilities.DutiesKey responsibilities include:Maintaining regulatory compliance;Managing all aspects of human resources;Performing planning responsibilities;Staff development and coordinating cooperative education and mentorship programs with ARC Team;Quality improvement;Assist Program Head with managing the unit/department financial resources;Performing corporate management responsibilities that support and advance UHN’s goals;Performing cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.QualificationsAt minimum, completion of a bachelor's degree in Science or recognized equivalent required.3 year Community College diploma in Veterinary Technology or recognized equivalent.Registered Laboratory Animal Technician (RLAT) Certification with Canadian Association for Laboratory Animal Science (CALAS) required; the Masters Certification should be completed post hire.Certification as Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) post hire required.At minimum, 6 years practical and related experience.In-depth knowledge of legislation governing use of research animals in Canada.In-depth knowledge of Canadian Biosafety guidelines.Excellent scientific and technical background with ingenuity and flexibility to allow for successful problem solving.Superior communication skills, written and verbal.Ability to facilitate conflict resolution.In addition to working alongside some of the most talented and inspiring healthcare professionals in the world, UHN offers a wide range of benefits, programs and perks.
