The Department of Medicine and the Division of Cardiology at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute is looking for a Director of the Canadian National PET Centre.The successful applicant will join a group of 46 cardiologists at the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (UOHI). The Division is renowned for delivery of outstanding cardiac care, excellence in education at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and recognized internationally for its research, particularly in electrophysiology, cardiac imaging, STEMI/ACS coronary intervention, valvular disease, cardiac transplantation, and pulmonary hypertension programs, among others.In addition to state-of-the-art catheterization and electrophysiology labs, the UOHI has a dedicated cardiac imaging facility with PET, MRI, CT, SPECT, and echocardiography imaging. Core facilities include 96 inpatient ward beds, an intensive cardiac care unit (ICCU) with 14 beds, an intensive cardiac surgery unit (CSICU) with 27 beds, a Day Unit with 36 beds, a Reference Centre with 11 beds, and a Structural Procedure Unit of 6 beds.UOHI is a large tertiary centre providing cardiovascular care to Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. The University of Ottawa Heart Institute is Canada’s largest heart health centre, employing over 1,400 healthcare professionals and handling more than 235,000 patients yearly from across Canada.The Ottawa Hospital is a 1150 bed tertiary-care hospital serving Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec at four inpatient sites and one ambulatory centre. There are approximately 50,000 inpatient admissions, 160,000 emergency visits, and over one million outpatient visits annually.The Ottawa Hospital Research Institute (OHRI) is TOH’s research arm, ranking fourth out of more than 600 Canadian hospitals for competitive, peer-reviewed grants. OHRI houses over 2,200 researchers, publishing more than 2,000 studies yearly, with many being high-impact publications.The Department of Medicine is a research-intensive Department, receiving approximately $60 million per year in external research funding and publishing approximately 1200 peer-reviewed publications annually.The Faculty of Medicine is ranked among Canada’s top-tier medical faculties, recognized for its research intensity and quality. The National Cardiac PET Centre is considered an international leader in clinical care, training, and research. The Centre includes 3 state-of-the-art PET cameras, an on-site cyclotron, and a fully equipped radiochemistry laboratory. The Centre performs approximately 3500 PET scans per year for clinical care and research. The Director will lead a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, imaging scientists, nurses, and technologists to ensure ongoing excellence and growth with high-quality imaging for patient care and cutting-edge research initiatives.Qualifications
The ideal candidate must hold FRCPC certification in Cardiology (or equivalent), have Level 3 fellowship training in Nuclear Cardiology, be a member of, or be eligible to be a member of, the Canadian Medical Protective Association, and be eligible to practice medicine in Ontario. Candidates should have a significant academic profile, with a demonstrated track record of high-quality research. Ideally, the successful candidate will qualify for an academic appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or above.The University of Ottawa and The Ottawa Hospital are bilingual institutions; therefore, a bilingual (French/English) candidate would be preferred in the case of equally qualified candidates.The income for this position is derived from various sources including clinical billings, salary support, and honorariums.
