University Marketing is seeking a Director of Trademarks and Licensing. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE), 12-month, professional faculty position.Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Strategic Communications, the Director of Trademarks and Licensing advances the mission of the university by developing, implementing, and evaluating short- and long-range goals and objectives for the university’s Trademarks and Licensing program. The Director develops, implements, and enforces plans, policies, procedures, systems, programs and performance standards to maximize royalty revenue through innovative and proactive retail marketing strategies.With highly specialized professional skills and experience with collegiate licensing, the Director will develop program-specific strategic plans, in consultation with the OSU Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, the university’s licensing agent of record and other external partners. They are responsible for managing staff, licensees, retailers, agencies, and external partners, to advance and protect the university’s brand. They determine resource needs and priorities and make recommendations to executive leadership. 90% Trademarks and LicensingOversees the direction and management of the Trademarks and Licensing program, including developing innovative and proactive retail marketing strategies to maximize royalty revenue, overseeing the university brand at retail and providing creative direction for marketing efforts across multiple platforms that advance the university’s brand and reputation.Develops, implements, and evaluates short- and long-term goals and objectives for the program. Provides leadership for institutional trademark policy and licensing regulations. Ensures use of best practices in licensing strategy and methodology while taking advantage of evolving trends.Manages a $1.5M+ budget, analyzes and reports on royalty revenue generation and develops budget forecasts for university leadership.Develops and maintains relationships with 300+ licensees, retailers, industry organizations and campus groups. Serves as the primary university liaison for the university’s licensing agent of record, official e-commerce provider, Fair Labor Association, Worker Rights Consortium and other external partners to provide information, guidance and subject matter expertise.Analyzes and approves licensing applications, promotional requests, enforcement activities and correct usage of the brand on retail merchandise.Leads work and provides direction for the management of the Internal Campus Supplier program.Develops and negotiates terms for university, licensing-related contracts. Manages requests for external, non-retail use of university trademarks.Monitors the university’s domestic trademark portfolio. Monitors the marketplace for unauthorized trademark usage.Analyzes data, develops reports and makes recommendations to university leadership regarding strategic opportunities and marketing initiatives.Develops and implements strategies to enhance NIL and branding opportunities for OSU student-athletes and stakeholders while maintaining OSU’s brand standards. Serve as an active member of the university’s NIL working group.Manages OSU’s sponsorship effort and implements strategic initiatives. Collaborates with university stakeholders on implementation and execution of sponsorship opportunities.10% Other Duties as AssignedWhat You Will Need

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business administration or related field.5 years of licensing or sports management experience.Demonstrated understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion concepts and issues as they apply to marketing and communications.This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.What We Would Like You to Have
