Job Category : FinancePOSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Grants Manager and Controller – Grants, in accordance with HUD, LAHSA, HOPWA, CDC, DHSP, HRSA, State, and City contract requirements, the Sr. Grants Accountant performs all grant and contract-related post award functions including, but not limited to: budget and expense analysis; monthly grant and contract invoicing; labor distribution changes and associated communication with program staff; reconciliation and budget modifications. This position must be proactive in ensuring compliance with all regulations and guidelines, maintaining accurate financial records and preparing reports for both internal and external stakeholders.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual grant and contract invoices for reimbursement.Prepare financial reports and supporting documentation for monthly invoicing.Reconcile and prepare grant reports, monitor and assess grant expenditures and work with internal staff on maximizing grant use.Monitor budget modification timelines and prepare budget modifications and submit to funders as required.Prepare budget modifications as required.Verify payroll status changes to ensure accurate labor distribution.Communicate with external stakeholders to obtain information needed and problem resolution, as directed by the Grants Manager and Controller - Grants.Follow up on collection of grants receivable as required.Perform grant close-out functions including related journal entries, reconciliations, year-end invoices and final cost reports.Maintain grant information for funder and auditor review, and participate in audits and reviews by funding agencies as directed. Assist with the preparation of audit schedules, documentation and support, specifically related to grants for the annual audit.Maintain balance sheet detail and reconciliations for grants receivable and grants revenue on an ongoing basis.Conduct detailed cost analyses to determine the effectiveness and appropriateness of expenditures.Collaborates with program managers and directors.Attends seminars and workshops related to grant guidelines and requirements to stay informed of changes in financial management and/or new federal regulations/guidance as it relates to federal, state, local or private funding.Serve as backup for Grants Manager as needed.OTHER DUTIES MAY BE ASSIGNED TO MEET BUSINESS NEEDS.REQUIREMENTS:Training and Experience:Bachelors' degree in accounting or related field or a minimum of five years of experience in accounting or grants management required. Accounting experience in a non-profit or government environment preferred. Experience working with federal funding preferred.Knowledge of:Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel. Experience with fund software, such as MIP, is considered a plus but not required. Familiarity with OMB circulars A-133 and the OMB Omni Circular preferred.Ability to:Must be extremely organized and detail-oriented with the ability to prioritize and maintain multiple projects simultaneously, while meeting tight and conflicting deadlines; develop systems and procedures to facilitate the completion of projects and tasks; communicate effectively, persuasively, and professionally both verbally and in writing with individuals, internally and externally; work independently and effectively under pressure; follow complex directions; analyze budgets, contracts and financial reports; perform auditing functions.WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This is primarily an office position that requires only occasional bending, reaching, stooping, lifting and moving of office materials weighing 25 pounds or less.
