Manager, Workers' Compensation and Leaves

PetVet Care Centers is a vibrant, growing network committed to veterinary excellence in each of our local hospitals, and seeks to add the best and brightest professionals to our support team. We are currently seeking a Manager, Workers’ Compensation and Leaves.
The Manager, Workers’ Compensation and Leaves is responsible for developing, maintaining and managing PetVet’s Workers’ Compensation and Leave of Absence programs. This role will oversee our Workers’ Compensation claims and risk management vendors to ensure effective loss control management and accurate and timely submissions of claims. This role ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, while providing support and guidance to Human Resources, Management and employees on leave-related matters.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Workers' Compensation Administration:
Oversee Workers' Compensation claim process, including intake, filing, and follow-up
Partner with PetVet’s Workers’ Compensation third party administrator (TPA), to manage claims and provide oversight of claims handling that improves clinical outcomes, reduces lost workdays, decreases litigation, and lowers total cost/risk
Review claims costs with insurers and formulate strategies to minimize financial impact of disability on the business
Leave Administration:
Manage and oversee all types of employee leaves, including but not limited to FMLA, ADA, short-term disability, long-term disability, personal leave, and military leave
Ensure accurate tracking and documentation of leave requests, approvals, and denials
Compliance and Reporting:
Prepare monthly and quarterly Risk Management status reports, financial trend reports, and ad hoc loss runs and other claim data analyses from the TPA’s system, company information and other sources
Collect and regularly report on statistics regarding Workers’ Compensation cases and Leaves
Ensure any State required reporting is provided timely and accurately
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of federal, state, and local Workers’ Compensation and Leave laws and regulations to ensure compliance of programs
Conduct regular audits of leave and Workers' Compensation records to ensure accuracy and compliance
General Management:
Partner on developing and updating workers' compensation and leaves policies and procedures
Communicate Workers’ Compensation and leaves policies and procedures to employees and managers
Troubleshoot, provide training, and support Managers and employees any Workers’ Compensation or leaves issue
Builds and maintains relationships within Benefits team as well as cross-functionally
Identify and report any key or systemic issues identified; collaborates on resolution plan
Any and all other duties as assigned

The Successful Candidate :
Minimum 5 years of related experience in Workers’ Compensation and Leave management administration
Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local leave and workers' compensation laws
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion
Excellent organizational skills with a high level of attention to detail
Strong analytical and process improvement skills, Advanced Excel skills preferred
Results focused; roll up your sleeves attitude; strong team player
Ability to communicate, lead and influence
Excited to build, develop and implement; can work in grey space
Proficiency in HRIS and leave management software, Dayforce experience a plus
