DESIGN ENGINEER:

Mechanical Design Engineer

Position Overview: This role is responsible for the design, development, and cost estimation of products supported at the Rochester, NY facility. The Mechanical Design Engineer will focus on both designing products and estimating costs, ensuring manufacturability and efficiency. The role includes creating multi-level bills of materials (BOM) and developing work instructions based on the design estimates and associated processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze customer CAD data, blueprints, and specifications to identify labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Engage in technical discussions with customers, Mersen Sales, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams.
  • Collaborate with suppliers on design elements and cost estimates.
  • Plan, organize, and prioritize tasks to meet project timelines and resource needs.
  • Design fixtures to optimize machining processes and reduce non-value-added time.
  • Prepare manufacturing cost estimates based on established procedures and processes.
  • Develop multi-level BOMs and work instructions to support product design and manufacturing.
  • Assist with new product development, ensuring seamless transition from design to production.

Required Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 0-3 years of experience in mechanical design and manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in drafting standards, geometric tolerances, and technical interpretations.
  • Familiarity with process control, manufacturing methods, and CNC machine shop practices (preferred).
  • Knowledge of machining processes, tooling, and CNC theory (preferred).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and passport for occasional international travel.

Work Environment:

This position operates primarily in a production office environment, with occasional exposure to shop elements such as noise, dust, and fumes. Standard office equipment, including computers and phones, is regularly used.

Physical Demands:

The role requires frequent standing, walking, and manual handling, as well as the ability to lift up to 25 pounds. The position also demands vision abilities for close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, along with depth perception.

Compensation:
This position is a contract-to-hire solution, with a target wage of $33-$38/hr.
