The Corporate Safety Director ensures the Company meets all safety expectations and actively supports Occupational Health and Safety. This role oversees and directs the Safety Program for all regions, including field construction work, service maintenance team, three warehouses, two fabrication shops, and office safety. To help us accomplish this goal, we ask for you to SMILE.Core CompetenciesAttention to DetailConcern for SafetyEnsuring AccountabilityExemplifying IntegrityIndustry KnowledgeProblem-SolvingEssential Job FunctionsDevelops and implements safety policies and procedures in compliance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations, including Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and ensures organizational compliance with these policies and regulations.Ensures compliance with stormwater pollution, Air Quality Management District (AQMD) regulation, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) & Hazardous materials.Supports and promotes the Company’s strong safety culture, both internally and externally. Manages team performance, including appraisals, development, coaching, communicating expectations, redirecting performance, and enforcing all policies, procedures, and standards.Identifies best practices and training needs for safety awareness initiatives to reduce risks and continuously looks for ways to improve safe work practices.Manages and conducts safety training, including new hire safety orientation, field safety training for Company and subcontractors, and mandatory training, including annual Fall Prevention Training, Forklift & Aerial Lift Certification, Blood Borne Pathogens, Global Harmonization System, Respiratory Protection and Excavation Trenching.Identifies hazards, analyzes, and reports on the effectiveness of safety initiatives, programs, policies, procedures, and processes.Provides guidance, consultation, and reinforcement to Superintendents, Project Managers, and other personnel regarding safety policies and subcontractor compliance.Develop and maintain the company's emergency response and crisis management plan.Manages safety teams processes, including regular inspections, reviews compliance at all office/field job sites, develops action steps to correct deficiencies, distributes detailed reports of findings, and follows up to ensure implemented measures.Prepares all Corrective Action Plans (CAP) for Requests for Proposals. Audits subcontractor Site Specific Safety and Health Plans (SSHP’s) and pre-qualification safety programs.Investigates all incidents (near-misses to fatalities) utilizing the Root Cause Analysis format, including work-related injuries to Company personnel and subcontractor workers, property damage, auto, fire, thefts, and vandalism.Manages all safety reporting, including monitoring the effectiveness of safety initiatives, Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR), monthly reporting, quarterly formal insurance company claim reviews, and annual submissions to OSHA for trenching permits and OSHA 300 log.Manages all aspects of property, liability, and auto claims, including attending auto claim mediations, hearings, and employee depositions.Manages Workers’ Compensation claims, including investigating, managing return to work, and negotiating claim settlements and reserves.Coordinates with insurance brokers and outside loss control services regarding implementing insurance requirements and loss control initiatives.Attends client-requested risk, safety, and incident meetings.Prepares defense for all OSHA citations and notices.Other duties as assigned.Education, Experience, and Skills5+ years’ commercial construction safety management experience.High school diploma or equivalent.Current knowledge of all federal, state, and local construction-related safety regulations and laws.Knowledge of construction and general industry safety, including compliance with stormwater pollution, AQMD Regulations, and EPA & Hazardous Material.Current OSHA 500, OSHA 30 Certification, and CPR/First aid Certification.Ability to use discretion, independent judgment, and professional skills. Ability to problem solve, analyze data, negotiate, and make recommendations.Professional integrity and sense of responsibility and accountability.Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills.Ability to multi-task, have strong attention to detail, and have time management skills to achieve all established deadlines.Proficient with computers and familiar with Microsoft Software Suite.Able to identify a need, remove barriers, and know how to make things happen.Values diversity of ideas, opinions, and people.
