The Department of Mathematics at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track position in Applied Mathematics at the Assistant Professor level with appointment to begin in August 2025. Individuals interested in advancing the University’s Strategic Plan, diversity, equity, and inclusion goals are particularly encouraged to apply.PositionCSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and individually mentored projects. Candidates for this position should be applied mathematicians with a background in computation, numerical analysis, machine learning, and mathematical modeling (with preference for statistical modeling). Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in applied mathematics, conducting research resulting in publications in high-quality peer-reviewed journals, directing faculty-student collaborative research, and advising undergraduate students. The successful candidates will contribute to the mathematics community at CSUF through teaching, research, professional activities, and service on departmental and university-wide committees. In particular, they will be expected to solicit industrial consulting projects for students in the graduate program in applied mathematics, mentor the students in completing these projects, and participate in the transdisciplinary Center for Computational and Applied Mathematics (CCAM) within the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics.Required QualificationsPh.D. in Applied Mathematics. Alternatively, have a Ph.D. in Statistics with substantial training and expertise in Applied Mathematics. All degree requirements must be completed prior to the starting date.At least one year of post-doctoral experience either in research, teaching, or a related industrial field.Be able to teach and contribute to developing courses related to Applied Mathematics at both undergraduate and graduate levels.Have a well-defined research agenda in either Applied Mathematics or Applied Statistics with a clear vision of current and future work and how both undergraduate and graduate students will be involved in this work.Have a demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring students of diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with a culturally diverse campus community.Preferred QualificationsTransdisciplinary research experience in areas outside of mathematics (e.g., statistics, data science, machine learning, neuroscience, finance).Potential to mentor students in research and industrial consulting projects.A successful record of obtaining external funding.Teaching expertise in person and online/virtual environments.Application ProcedureA complete online application must be received by electronic submission in order to receive consideration. The department also offers the following graduate degree programs: M.S. in Computational Applied Mathematics, M.S. in Statistics, and M.A. in Teaching Mathematics.CompensationThe Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $5,925 to $12,594 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $7,206 to $7,350 per month.
