Position Overview:The General Manager (GM) for the Tug and Barge Company in Alaska is responsible for overseeing all operational aspects of the business. This includes managing daily operations, ensuring compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements, leading and motivating staff, and maintaining strong relationships with clients and stakeholders. The GM will be instrumental in strategic planning, budgeting, and ensuring the overall profitability and sustainability of the company.Key Responsibilities:Operational Management:Oversee all tug and barge operations, including scheduling, logistics, and maintenance.Ensure compliance with all maritime regulations and safety standards.Monitor and optimize operational efficiency and effectiveness.Implement and maintain best practices in fleet management and maritime operations.Leadership and Staff Management:Lead, mentor, and develop a team of maritime professionals, including captains, crew members, and administrative staff.Foster a positive and productive work environment.Oversee recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.Financial Management:Develop and manage the company's budget, ensuring cost control and financial sustainability.Analyze financial performance and provide regular reports to the executive team.Identify and implement strategies for revenue growth and cost reduction.Client and Stakeholder Relations:Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, regulatory bodies, and community stakeholders.Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through reliable and efficient service delivery.Negotiate contracts and manage key client accounts.Strategic Planning and Business Development:Contribute to the development and execution of the company’s strategic plan.Identify new business opportunities and areas for expansion.Ensure the company is positioned to meet future market demands and challenges.Safety and Environmental Compliance:Ensure all operations comply with safety regulations and environmental standards.Implement and oversee safety programs and emergency response plans.Promote a culture of safety and environmental responsibility across the company.Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Maritime Studies, or a related field (Master’s preferred).Minimum of 10 years of experience in the maritime industry, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership role.Extensive knowledge of tug and barge operations, maritime regulations, and industry best practices is a must.Strong financial acumen and experience with budgeting and financial management.Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work in remote and challenging environments.Familiarity with Alaskan waters and conditions is highly desirable.Working Conditions:The position may require travel to various locations within Alaska.The GM must be available to respond to emergencies and operational needs, which may occur outside of regular business hours.The role requires the ability to work in remote and potentially harsh environmental conditions.Compensation:Competitive salary based on experience.
