Position Summary:

The General Manager-Marine reports to the COO and is responsible for efficient and profitable operations of the marine operations including 5 tug and barge sets operating in Western Alaska. This position covers all aspects of Operations for the businesses, as well as managing a Corporate Controller. This division currently has 35 employees and $60M in Sales.

Essential Job Functions:

Manage the Marine Department overseeing tug/barge sets and support vessels

Coach, Mentor, Motivate and Supervise various office staff as well as crew

Ensure proper staffing for all vessels

Influence Operations Team to take positive action and accountability for their assigned tasks

Prepare and manage budgets for CAPEX and Operations

Project management and shipyard management during repairs and dry docking

Oversee lighterage and ship to ship transfers between company vessels and chartered ships or barges

Supervise Marine Dispatcher and other marine support positions as required

Develop strategies for growth that align with company vision

P&L responsibility for business units

Customer service and sales focus

Ensure compliance with various regulations and training for business units.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience managing a marine operation

Proven experience in a leadership role

Highly prefer a ship captain with petroleum product transport experience

Travel required

Requires longer hours in summer ice-free season

A clean driving record, able to pass a background check, and complete a pre-employment drug screening

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as contracts, specifications, operating and maintenance instructions, company policy, procedure manuals and/or state and federal regulations

Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

Mathematical skills to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals as well compute rates, ratios, and percentages.

Ability to solve practical problems

Skilled in handling situations in which limited standardization and multiple variables exist
