About the Search Program

Informed by lessons learned as the world's largest and oldest peacebuilding organization, Common Ground-USA (CG-USA) is a bold initiative of Search for Common Ground (Search) building the conditions for a more inclusive, equitable, and peaceful society. We envision an America where we engage in collaboration across differences to address our greatest challenges, and where we can all belong and thrive. We see disagreement as an opportunity to transform conflict into cooperation on our daily and most pernicious problems.About the Project

University presidents, along with their students, are facing unprecedentedly tumultuous campus climates in the wake of widespread student protests in the Spring and ahead of a contentious presidential election in the Fall. Common Ground USA is preparing university presidents, students, business and community leaders for potential escalation of tensions in the fall of 2024.Background to the request for technical support

Our "5 Ps of Preparedness" framework brings together global best practices for preventing and managing conflict and the expertise of other university leaders. It is intended to host this bootcamp in the summer, before students arrive in the fall, so that Presidents are empowered to meet the needs and challenges that Universities are projected to face. Each session will include information sharing, activation, and shared review. This is not intended as a turnkey service, but rather as a catalyst and group to help Presidents take timely and early action and to share both hurdles and successes from their own implementation experience. As we are looking at the scope and timeline of this project, and its short turnaround time, we would need additional external technical support for this program to be successful.
