Job Description - Physician Assistant I / Weekends / Cardiovascular Medicine (3288293)The physician assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care, and ongoing evaluation. The PA works under the supervision of an attending physician and reports directly to the department administrator or chief physician assistant.The PA will perform in accordance with all state and federal regulations and institutional policies.Principle Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population.Performs complete histories and physical examinations.Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.Develops appropriate plans of care based on diagnostic findings.Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to policies.Provides high-quality documentation including admission and progress notes.Performs bedside procedures as appropriate.May first assist in the operating room or procedural areas.Practices cost-effective medicine.Discusses patient data with other physicians and professionals.Demonstrates expert clinical judgment skills.Precepts PA students and fellows.While the PA can expect a predictable work schedule, variations may occur to cover clinical needs. The PA may be asked to take call, pick up additional shifts, or provide backup coverage as needed.Non-Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:Demonstrates professional collaborative relationships with other providers.Follows prescriptive practices and monitoring requirements.Participates in departmental committees and programs.Maintains superior interpersonal and communication skills.Remains actively involved in continuing education.Adheres to established safety policies and procedures.Minimum Requirements:Successfully completed a graduate-level physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA.Certification by the NCCPA must be obtained prior to the first day of employment.Must hold a current valid license or be eligible for licensure in Massachusetts.Must have or be eligible for, and maintain, a current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration.Must complete 100 hours of CME during each two-year period of employment.Must complete the BWH Professionalism Program within three months of hire.Skills:Ability to work in a high-stress, dynamic clinical setting.Ability to be self-directive and demonstrate initiative.Ability to utilize appropriate problem-solving skills.Energetic and quality-driven with a proven ability to be a productive team member.Proficient with BWH computer systems (EMR, Epic preferred).Work Settings:Work settings may include ambulatory clinics, inpatient areas, intensive care units, and operating rooms.
