Job Description - Physician Assistant I Men's Health (3298558)The physician assistant (PA) is a licensed provider responsible for the assessment and management of various patient populations, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, development of appropriate plans of care, and ongoing evaluation. The PA works under the supervision of an attending physician and reports directly to the department administrator or chief physician assistant.The PA will support our Men's Health team within the Benign Division of Urology, seeing patients with diagnoses such as erectile dysfunction, testosterone insufficiency, benign prostatic hypertrophy, and Peyronie's disease. There is an opportunity for procedure work including foley catheter management and testosterone injections.This is an ambulatory position with an anticipated schedule of 4 ten-hour shifts M-F. No nights or weekends. Our PAs see both new and follow-up patients independently in the urology clinic.PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:Provides direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population.Performs complete histories and physical examinations.Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.Develops appropriate plans of care based on diagnostic findings.Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to policies and procedures.Provides high-quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes.Performs bedside procedures as appropriate.Discusses patient data with other physicians and professionals.Demonstrates expert clinical judgment skills to function independently.Additional duties as required by the department.Non-Clinical Duties and Responsibilities:Demonstrates professional collaborative relationships with other providers.Participates in departmental committees and attends required meetings.Maintains superior interpersonal and communication skills.Adheres to all established safety policies and procedures.Demonstrates understanding of compliance with hospital standards of care.Additional duties as required by the department.QUALIFICATIONS:Successfully completed a graduate-level physician assistant program accredited by ARC-PA.Master’s in PA studies preferred; Bachelor's in PA studies accepted with relevant clinical experience.Certification by the NCCPA must be obtained prior to employment.Must hold a valid license or be eligible for licensure in Massachusetts.Must have or be eligible for current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration.Must complete 100 hours of CME every two years.Must complete the BWH Professionalism Program within three months of hire.Must complete BWH Procedural Sedation Training if necessary.SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:Demonstrates clinical knowledge, skills, and professionalism.Must be energetic, quality-driven, and able to work within a cohesive team.Must maintain a professional attitude towards patients and colleagues.Must demonstrate understanding of procedures and policies for compliance.Brigham and Women’s Hospital is an Affirmative Action Employer.
