Job Summary:

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation Medicine at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University is seeking a full-time TH Physician Assistant 1, Sports Medicine. The successful candidate will:

Support the outpatient clinic operations for the Sports Medicine Service physicians in a reliable, timely, and efficient manner.Provide coverage for the Sports Medicine Injury Clinic on weekends.Assist Sports Medicine Pre-Participation Physical Exam Program.Provide game or event coverage in the evenings and on the weekends.Attend weekly grand rounds and case presentations to build knowledge base.Appropriately position patients in the operating room for surgery.Assist residents on the service and in the Division of Sports Medicine with processing paperwork and patient logistics.Arrive on time to clinic and stay until all necessary and reasonable tasks have been completed.Follow and anticipate attending physician instructions and expectations in the operating room, especially for common procedures.Continually seek to increase knowledge and understanding of the Orthopaedic joint reconstruction sub-specialty.Perform daily rounds on post-operative inpatients for the service and other inpatients for the Division of Sports Medicine as needed, and arrange consults when appropriate.Use macro templates in HealthBridge and Athena EHR systems.Create progress and discharge notes, where appropriate, for reach patient seen.Utilize knowledge of human anatomy and physiology to close wounds and appropriate structures in the operating room (OR).Effectively close wounds and place instrumentation in the OR.Manage the clinical database for research.Provide lessons for the sports medicine curriculum. Assist development of musculoskeletal fellowship for Pa's.Perform other tasks for the department and practice as needed.Adhere to the hospital and medical group policies and procedures.Module the WE CARE values of the institution.

Required Qualifications:

New York State Physician Assistant Licensure.Bachelors' Degree from an approved Physician Assistant program.3+ years of Orthopaedic experience in a primary medical care setting or 2+ years in an Orthopaedic Clinic.
