Position Summary:
Campbell University School of Law is seeking a dynamic individual to serve as the Director of Competitive Advocacy and Trial Advocacy Instructor. Campbell Law’s Competitive Advocacy Program has been recognized as one of the top advocacy programs in the nation by both the ABA and U.S. News and World Report, and its Mock Trial, Moot Court, Negotiations, Arbitration, and Client Counseling teams compete nationally and internationally. This position is a twelve-month, full-time, non-tenure track administrative and instructor level position.
As the Director of Competitive Advocacy, the successful applicant will oversee the highly successful and nationally ranked Competitive Advocacy Program, including the Mock Trial, Moot Court, Negotiations, Arbitration, and Client Counseling teams. The successful applicant will direct and manage the entire Competitive Advocacy Program for the law school and will, in consultation with the Dean, Vice Dean, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, and Director of Trial Advocacy, determine the scope and range of competitions each year. Directing and managing the entire Competitive Advocacy Program will include:
Supervising advocacy support staff (as provided);
Developing advocacy competitions that will be hosted and sponsored by Campbell University School of Law;
Working with the Director of Development to generate resources for the Competitive Advocacy Program;
Cooperating with the Director of Trial Advocacy to promote a consistent approach to trial advocacy instruction;
Overseeing travel and lodging arrangements for competitive teams;
Setting financial guidelines for permissible expenditures of competitive teams while travelling;
Approving for payment all expense reimbursement requests for competitive advocacy programs;
Developing fair and equitable selection procedures for every category of student competitions;
Working with alumni, faculty and staff members, and practitioners to recruit, hire, and supervise advocacy team coaches.
The Director of Competitive Advocacy will also serve as an Instructor at the law school, teaching one or more of the performance sections for the required Trial Advocacy course, under the supervision of the Director of Trial Advocacy. The Trial Advocacy Instructor position is a full-time, non-tenure instructor position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop and foster the Campbell Law Competitive Advocacy Program
Supervise advocacy support staff and adjunct coaches
Work with the Development Office to generate additional resources
Manage budget for competitive advocacy endeavors
Institute fair selection process based on skill and merit
Recruit, hire, and supervise advocacy team coaches
Cooperate with trial advocacy faculty to implement trial advocacy curriculum
Teach one or more performance sections of the required Trial Advocacy course, which is led by the Director of Trial Advocacy
Develop and manage learning objectives and recommendations in consultation with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs and Director of Trial Advocacy
Administer tests, assignments and/or other exercises that permit measure of knowledge, abilities and/or performance relative to the learning objectives
Maintain effective and timely communications with students and staff at all times
Complete student record keeping and submit grades in a timely and accurate manner
Participate in departmental, faculty and staff meetings as requested
Maintain a professional appearance and demeanor at all times
Uphold and abide by Campbell Law School and Campbell University policies and procedures, including, but not limited to Title IX, and Information Security, including FERPA and other state and federal regulations

Education/Experience:
J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school
Minimum two years’ civil and/or criminal litigation experience
Sound academic qualifications
Commitment to excellence in teaching
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated skill in teaching and mentoring students, and practice experience in civil or criminal litigation
Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
Demonstrate tact, a positive attitude, courtesy and discretion in dealing with faculty, staff, students, university officials and outside constituencies
Technological proficiency, including an ability to learn and deliver remote instruction
Ability to work independently and function effectively in a team and within a diverse group of people
Manage multiple, concurrent projects, and meet set deadlines
Exercise independent judgment as necessary
