Executive Director of the Blakely Advocacy Institute (BAI)The Executive Director of the Blakely Advocacy Institute (BAI) oversees and directs the courses, programs, and activities associated with the Institute at the University of Houston Law Center.

Supervises and trains law students who participate in the Law Center’s interscholastic competition programs.

Partners with competition head coaches to provide guidance and training specific to domestic and international competitions that coincide with the mission of the Blakely Advocacy Institute and the Law Center.

Plans, schedules, and administrates all classes offered by the Blakely Advocacy Institute, which includes but is not limited to: providing leadership and identifying current Advocacy curriculum needs, recruiting faculty, monitoring course effectiveness, creating new courses as needed, etc.

Initiates, plans, and implements special events.

Directs and manages all aspects of the overall program administration and operation, which includes budgeting, strategic planning, and staff supervision of the BAI.

Leads outreach and fundraising efforts within the legal community by establishing and maintaining a network of alumni, attorneys, and judges.

Collaborates with the Law Center Dean, Faculty, Staff, and other Law Center Institutes to develop strategic plans and initiatives to expand course development.

Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Doctoral and 7 years experience. Requires singular knowledge of a specialized advanced professional discipline or the highest level of general business knowledge, normally acquired through attainment of a directly job-related terminal degree or equivalent formal training in a recognized field of specialization that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of seven (7) years of directly job-related experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The J.D. degree is a required terminal degree for the position’s educational requirement.

Given that this position has a focus on operating an organization within the Law Center focused on academic and professional training and instruction in the lawyering skill of advocacy, broadly conceived, prior experience gained in a law firm, JD preferred position, or other legal position doing any of the following activities will be considered as job-related experience:

Training, assisting, advising, supervising, and mentoring junior attorneys;

Preparing, hosting, and/or delivering law student and/or junior attorney trainings and presentations;

Delivering or assisting with law student and/or junior attorney mentoring, networking, and recruiting events;

Advising law students and/or junior attorneys in any capacity.

This position may be eligible for Alternative Work Arrangements.

Salary:

Commensurate with experience.
