Indy AfterSchool Corps

members serve in after school programs at community-based service sites of high poverty. Graduation Counselors are responsible for implementing College- and Career-readiness programs for junior high and high school students. Roles and responsibilities will vary by service site.

Responsibilities:

Create positive, mentoring relationships with teen Club members.

Utilize input from teen members to develop and implement a daily homework help and tutoring program that will appeal to teen Club members.

Conduct individual meetings with teen Club members (who attend regularly) to develop and update their Graduation Plan at least once a month.

Create opportunities for Club members in junior high/middle school and high school to participate in college and career planning programs (i.e. College Goal Sunday, College Fairs, etc.).

Promote participation in college entrance exams (GED/SAT/ACT tests), financial aid assistance programs (21st Century Scholars/College Goal Sunday/etc.), and scholarship opportunities.

Plan and implement college tours.

Plan and implement additional educational and leadership development programs on a weekly basis.

Record program activities and member participation in all programs.

Supervise the Teen Room Director to ensure the delivery of daily Club programming that is attractive to teen members.

Develop collaborative relationships with feeder middle schools and high schools, and visit them regularly to recruit new teens, promote teen programs, and gather data on participating members.

Develop collaborative relationships with other organizations, and support college and career preparation activities.

Member Duties:

AmeriCorps Teen Program Directors will provide direct support services to after school programs to ensure quality production of academic success and job readiness programs for teen members. Teen Program Directors will develop and implement education programs with youth and will support the club team through implementation of programs and activities. Training and continual support will be provided by the program and club community, especially related to youth development, safety and programming.
