Scribe Therapeutics is a molecular engineering company focused on creating best-in-class in vivo therapies that permanently treat the underlying cause of disease. Founded by CRISPR inventors and leading molecular engineers Benjamin Oakes, Brett Staahl, David Savage, and Jennifer Doudna, Scribe is overcoming the limitations of current genome editing and repressor technologies by developing custom engineered enzymes and constructs as part of a proprietary, evergreen CRISPR by Design platform for CRISPR-based genetic medicine.We are seeking a highly creative, passionate, and motivated individual to join us in our quest to develop the next generation of CRISPR-based therapeutics. The current role is for a Patent Attorney to join our team and advance our platform. This role will require expertise in the drafting and prosecution of patent applications in molecular biology and genetic engineering using CRISPR-based technologies.Key Responsibilities:
Draft patent specifications and claimsDraft responses to patent office actionsInteract with senior in-house patent attorney and outside counsel for patent drafting, prosecution, and strategyAssist in the oversight of the patent portfolioReview scientific and patent literature to monitor the competitive landscapePerform patent keyword and assignee searches to monitor competitive landscape and FTO analyses; communicate findings to project teamsEffectively collaborate with members within a fully-integrated team to facilitate execution on projects within established timelines for generation of reports and on-time integration into patent applicationsIndependently work with R&D staff to provide recommendations on experimental design and experiments to support patent applicationsRequired Skills and Background:
JD degree and admitted to practice in the state of CaliforniaMS or doctorate in molecular biology; specialization in CRISPR technology preferred3-5 years of law firm experienceDemonstrated experience in patent and claim draftingAbility to interpret and present research data and other complex informationExceptional oral and written communication skillsStrong organizational abilities and experience in a multitasking environment; ability to prioritize and meet deadlinesGood interpersonal skillsAbility to communicate scientific information in a clear and concise mannerProficiency in Microsoft Office or equivalent products, including manipulation of graphs and figuresAbility to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary research teamSalary will be commensurate with experience.
