Position SummaryBryant University is seeking a Director for the John H. Chafee Center for International Business.

As Rhode Island’s designated agency for world trade and export activities, the Chafee Center plays a vital role in promoting global business expansion and attraction. Through partnerships with RI Commerce, the Small Business Administration, and trade organizations, the Center fosters international trade by connecting businesses, government officials, academic experts, and globally-minded talent. The Center also actively collaborates with faculty, students, and staff to support Bryant University’s mission.

The Director plays a pivotal leadership role in planning, managing, and administering the Center’s operations. This role involves strategically elevating the Center’s activities and expanding its regional influence. The Director will collaborate closely with university and state leaders to enhance the Center’s grant acquisition and revenue generation capabilities, while also working with businesses to increase internships, research projects, and consulting opportunities.

Principal AccountabilitiesLeadership and Management:

Provide strategic leadership and management for the Chafee Center, expanding its internal and external influence.

Advocate for the Center and its alignment with the University’s mission through collaboration with faculty, staff, and international trade partners.

Lead and develop a cohesive and motivated team, fostering professional development and collaboration.

Partnerships and Grants:

Build sustainable partnerships with businesses, government leaders, and the Bryant community.

Enhance state grant financial support and collaborate with RI Commerce on Foreign Direct Investment initiatives.

Expand the SBA STEP Grant’s reach and impact, increasing export-promotion training for businesses.

Event Planning and Training:

Plan and execute the Global Trade Summit, ensuring engaging themes, compelling speakers, and valuable networking opportunities.

Develop and deliver comprehensive international trade training programs for local businesses, aimed at preparing professionals to effectively operate in the global marketplace.

Student and University Support:

Develop strategies to leverage the Chafee Center for student development and support Bryant University’s mission.

Partner with academic leadership to expand experiential learning opportunities for students.

Qualifications

Strong background in international business, import/export programs, and FDI and knowledge of public policy in these areas.

Experience in building strategic alliances between academic, government, and business organizations.

Demonstrated decision-making, budget, and financial management skills.

Knowledge of local, state, and federal policies affecting small businesses is preferred.

Grants administration and fundraising experience.

College degree required; Advanced business-focused degree preferred.

Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills.
